Default 928 Estate vs Ford Mustang FR500S...

http://www.fordracingparts.com/mustang/HeroCard2.asp

While at Thunderhill yesterday I found a pretty quick mustang (since most suck)...I thought I could dump him with ease in the corners...but it was suprisingly quick... So I let him by to chase him.....when he goes buy I see a built race car and "FR500S" on the tail...duh...no wonder its quick....a true factory built race car....

So how does the $256 928 Estate fair against a true factory built racer....your gonna have to watch and see for yourself!!!

The FR500S is a 4.6l V8 325hp 6-speed Mustang that weighs ~3,500lbs.

HP to weight ratio, is pretty damn close. But lets face it; it is a Ford Mustang. I jerked the Ford power plant out of the Polecat 20 years ago. Fords suck, and burn oil.

I checked out the Mustang up close later....its VERY well made....its quoted at 325hp...but the owner said most dyno around 300whp.... I would say its a low 2:00-2:02 car at Thunderhill...quite a bit faster than the Estate...which hasn't done faster than 2:09.5 yet...

Funny about oil...I don't think the estate burns very much...but it sure leaks it all over the place!!!

Why the 'Estate' designation?

the 500 series mustangs run in their own race series and will run 1:50ish at sears point. I think the spec weight was 3300lbs about 300rwhp from what I have been told. Kent jordan who had the evo back in my early battle days with him, raced a mustang like this.
now, the grand am Koni series mustang 500, has the crate motor with 400rwhp or so. also about 3300lbs.

That would be a 7.4L/455 4bbl weighing in at around 5600 lbs I think.

I do not miss my '74 Electra.
