38 miles away...
In my case, the car is only 38 miles from my house. I emailed the seller to get the exact location...I'll take pics, and ponder and "all in" business opportunity to own another 84 black/black with a busted transmission...

good point...
You are correct..., filthy engine, fugly steering wheel, cheap seats, and the frankenshark kit scares me...Only a true idiot would buy this car...
Sorry, gotta go to the bank teller, then Laguna Beach for some starbucks...

Go to the teller machine and make the withdrawl, keep $10 for a latte, and send the rest of the wad to me.
You'll be further ahead that way.
Via pics, this one reeks of "thrashed by the immature". Shiny paint job and otherwise worn-out and broken.

too funny chris,
I am awaiting the address from the ebay seller. I'll skip the bank stop, and just take pics for now...
Hey man, are you going to try and outbid me...?

Nawww.
Just reading through, seemed like the vibe was that it was a tranny away from being a golden example. The car didn't strike me that way. First guy got taken, don't want to see it happen twice.
Its the kind of car where you think "I can't get hurt / can always sell it as parts".
Then find the wheels are patched / straightened / welded etc, no interior parts are worthy of resale, body work is a cobble up (it would have to be / who has money to do a great body job but no money to make it mechanically or cosmetically sound). You can see how bad its finished by looking at the edges of some of the various photos.

I bought an '83 off of ebait from Santa Monica seller a year ago with tranny trbl. towed it home and changed the tranny filter and fluid and it didn't look any better than this one. Surprise! It turned out to be a great car. I'll be changing motor mounts from 928srus next week. Maybe all this one needs is tranny service also. My car looked like crap at first but just did alot of cleaning etc and love it to death. This 84 looks the same and could be fixed up fairly easly.

84 saga
I wish this car had more going for it, but the transmission problem was minor compared to the other items that were either broken or missing.
We spent a good 60 minutes going through this car, but it's only a parts car, you would need lots of money and time to get this sorted:
- gaps didn't lineup, the s4 aftermarket body kit was flawed
- tail lights were crooked and broken
- nearly all window seals were bad
- interior missing panels, missing vents' shifter items.
- right door stuck, missing key assembly
- headliner pieces missing
- hood didn't fit correctly
- undercarriage showed dents
- missing plastic gas tank cover (fuel pump & filter exposed)
- engine had no under carriage protection
- missing ac pump
- engine bay hadn't been cleaned since 1984

That's why you pay with a credit card and then get your money back. The seller will need a fan when he ends up in Hell. This was a textbook reason why PPI's are so necessary, but I'm preaching to the choir here. The seller's feedback even had significant red flags and yet people bid....

On topic: It sounds like this buyer did no prior inspection; I hope somebody makes this a track car.

Maybe I'm heartless, and IMHO, I don't feel very sad for the buyer.
All used car sells unless otherwise noted are As Is sales. "Caveat Emptor" . The buyer should have gotten more photos/history before bidding, or found rennlist and with Google search of " How expensive or difficult are Porsche 928s to repair?"
It is the buyers responsibility to check the car out. I see this on Judge Joe Brown every other day.
I have a problem with the buyer spending all his available cash on travel and the car and not being able to get it back home sounds like lunacy.
The seller is a scum bag for not disclosing all the problems, but the buyer should have gotten smart on the car before bidding.
When I went to pick up my first one in North Dakota that I won on ebay (Ethre's current car) I called the seller and he was hoping I would ship it. I said I wanted to look at it first and drive it back after I ensured it matched the ad.
When I got there he was gone, but his wife was there. He said in the ad he had all maintenance history except for two years and some other less than honest things. What he had was some receipts for parts that he had put on (Not a problem if he was on rennlist or other community) and his wife said he was constantly working on it (Different than what he said). The car didn't match the ad or conversations I had before taking the trip out . The trip cost me 800.00 for travel room and board out of my 928 budget. Pissed me off, but my fault for not asking to see the history and better pics before bidding.
