Momo Hub Adapter Rubbing Pod Column
Hi,
I just installed a Club 4 wheel and a 7005 hub adapter. The hub adapter is rubbing on the upper section of the pod column. The bottom part of the column trim that is removable doesn't rub. The steering column feels solid with no play. I was thinking maybe I need to install washer or spacer to keep the hub from rubbing. Has anybody encountered this problem. I did PM Bill Ball and he said he doesn't have this issue with his.

I would see if Stan (MrMerlin) has an idea about this. There was a Momo wheel on the car I bought from him before swapping to a 930 wheel. I believe he may have a bit of insight on this.

In looking at one of my spare steering wheels I think you can put a washer in the end of the center of the splined hole, but it will have to clear the splined on the shaft and be narrow enough to fit inside the recess. You will probably have to have it made.
Then, you will either need to space the horn contact ring with the signal cancel extension on it out the same amount; or, if I racall correctly, you may be able to simply adjust the combo switch allembly outward to match the horn contact ring in its new location.

My idea is assuming that the bottom end of the Momo adapter is much the same as an original Porsche wheel. If not, post a picture of the Momo bottom end and I'll try again. Unfortunately, that means take the steering wheel off unless someone has a loose one laying around. JF

I have almost 1/8th" space between the end of the Momo hub and the face of the pod. I don't believe that are model year differences, but maybe there are, in the face of the pod. However, a leather covered pod could be an issue. I would look into reseating the pod.

what you need to do is loosen the pod securing screws and push it ( the POD ) to the front of the car then snug the bolts down then with the wheel installed and the lower column cover off make the TS switch tab just touch the back of the hub then tighten the TS switch, then remove the wheel and fit the lower cover and tighten the bolts, then install the wheel.
NOTE if you have had your pod recovered then you may not be able to get enough clearance..
I dont recommend fitting a spacer as it wont be fully seated and could possibly damage the C clip holding the steering shaft to the upper collar

Interestingly, I had the same issue. It feventually wore away the vinyl, never caused any binding, squeaking or anything.
Last year I had a spare pod recovered by Rob Budd, in vinyl and this one didn't rub....don't ask me why, it may be the way Rob re-covered, maybe some of the thin foam was removed.

I did the pod adjustment/TS switch/lower cover work as Mrmerlin outlined above. I still could not get the pod sucked in enough not to rub. It was close but still rubbed. I ended up filing down the hub adapter aluminum base a little and that did the trick; no more scraping sound.

make sure to adjust the TS switch as outlined,
otherwise it will suffer an early death from the hub pressing to hard on the brass spring,

Came across this searching for some other things tonight.
Had the same thing w my 79.
Turned out be the column bushing and bearing.
Relatively cheap and easy to do, just a little time consuming.
My column bearing actually came apart when I took it out.
All the bearings fell on the floorboard.
