Doooood that sounds like sooooo much fun. That is going to be a lot of junk in the trunk. Are you going to mount the engine forward in the passenger compartment? How do you convert the power to the wheels?

Joke or no, after seeing some of the builds around here I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried this.

First one I thought of was the 993 based one that was posted. Oh yeah!!

Years ago a customer stuffed a 928 V-8 into his VW syncro bus was in the Chicago area as I recall... he liked the all wheel drive with the V-8 power. It was only a 16 valve but he was planning on updating to a 32 valve

Well, if I were REALLY going to do it, then yes, I would place the engine forward of the rear axles. Maybe enclose it in a double paned plexiglass box for heat insulation and place it like a table with seating around it, or leave it exposed in all it's glory like on the chopped 62.

The drivetrain is a good question. If it were a stock 4.5 or 4.7 928, I would just use a beefed up VW tranny and a Renegade Hybrids adapter. But for a Greg Brown motor, I would need something that could handle it. Most practical may be a beefed up 928 tranny with a very shortened (or non-existent) torque tube. Or, maybe wait to see what Larry (Aspkiller) is able to sort out with the Corvette C5 tranny, and go that route?

But then, it wouldn't quite be a VW Bus anymore, would it. Or would it? Add some neon lights around the engine.. some lava-ish goo oozing between the plexiglass layers.. **** carpeting.. blacklights. Voila! We are back in the 60's sitting around something that can take us on a real scary trip!

My friend Randy came by the shop Friday and said no more slicks until he got a set of wheelie bars on the roller skate.
I think he scared himself.

Greg, that roller skate looks scary, but is probably along the same lines as what we are talking here (gobs of power in an unexpected, platform). Kind of a buzz-kill , but it brings home the point to me, that both the roller skate and the VW bus should get a lot more than wheelie bars before anyone sees "what it can do": roll cage, fire supression system, race harness, helmet. I sincerely hope your friend Randy seriously considers these things, and whether he does or not, that he is a good enough driver to handle that beast!

Randy loves the 0-35 stuff, and that is about it.

HE built a 55 Chevy that is just stunning, all done in his basement, 6 speed, tubbed and tubed, coil overs, he moved the firewall back and I could not tell it.

The 55 is caged and he is working on a roll over system for the roller skate.
I bet he never gets it over 75, really, still fast enough to get killed, but that is not his deal.
