Default Widest rims and tires that can fit on an S4

Can I fit 18x10 or 19x10 rims on a S4...? Just sold my M3 today and am getting ready to buy a 928S4 in the next couple weeks. I am planning on changing the rims and tires (list of things I want to do) and want to prepare what would be the biggest I could run...

thanks....

Without having to get custom offsets or play with spacers you can go 285's (and maybe 295's) on a 10" or 11" wide rim out back and 245 on an 8" rim up front. Some of the best fitting rims you can put on a 928 S4 are the Carrera III take offs from a 997! They fit perfectly. Just look at pics of AO's car. They are 18" (and I wouldn't recommend going 19"...the cars were not designed around that and the ride is likely to be pretty rough on a 19" but others will disagree I am sure) and look just about PERFECT on 928's!

In South Florida I have Homestead and Moroso racway tracks I can track race/test the 928 on once I get it setup and in the condition I want. So some will hate me but I am going to paint it MATTE black and put colorful racing rims on it, so I was curious what the best or biggest size I could get away with was.

295/30/18 is just fine for me... : )

Plan:
1) fix any mechanical problems
2) paint
3) rims/tires
4) interior carbon fiber...

thanks...

The key is offsets of the wheels. That makes or breaks the deal. Before you paint think about doing a wrap. Cheaper (well maybe not than rattle can flat black) than paint and can (at least in theory) be removed to put the car back to stock.

I HIGHLY recommend taking your 928(s) to the race track! Virtually all of mine have been tracked several times! It is SO MUCH FUN!!! Real learning experience...mostly how much you suck compared to really good drivers! LOL! I was the fastest in my Green (newbie) group the first time I went out but that would have only put me about mid pack in the blue group and all the yellow group (regardless of the car...914, Miata, wouldn't matter) red group and white groups were faster! LOL! Needless to say Roger Penske didn't bother to call me to sign me up to drive his Indy car!

9.5" front and 11" rear with 265 and 285 seem to be the max without fender rolling. 68 to 70 offset front and 52 to 55 offset rear.

I think Jarrod's Cup II wheels are 9" front and ET70 offset... You can run a 275 on a 9" but a 265 would probably be the better choice. Then run a 285 on either a 10" or 11" on the back and you would be GOLDEN!

Tires have a LOT to do with this.

I have 18x11 in the rear of my 88S4, and had to roll and just barely flare to fit Continental 275s in there.

I may be looking for someone in the SF Bay area..if they wanna swap my 18x11 C3's for 18x10s. (I'll keep my tires of course)

I have 235 35ZR 19 on the front, and 285 35ZR 19 on the back of a 1989 S4. They ride a little rough, but no control problems, as I don't drive in an aggressive way, just cruise. No alteration to the wheel wells.

When I bought my S4 I got crazy lucky. I found a set of 993 18" twists on ebay and had them delivered to the PPI to get mounted. Had NO idea about offsets but as luck would have it, they were for the narrow body 993 with 8" ET 52mm and 10" ET65mm rears which are very ideal for 928's. I run 225/40 and 265/35 resp. but realize I can go bigger in back. YMMV

Tavo swears it will be done by JUNE 2012 in case we have our F1 race follow Canada directly. They are making good progress. Certainly has not been to wet for them to work...we are as dry as a bone here and thus WAY BEHIND on rain, but that means they have not had to slow down at all! I think most of their permiting was done too so they didn't have to do much waiting for that at all either.

They broke ground in Dec and it is reported they are ahead of schedule!

I have two events coming up in the middle of April where we will hear from the TOP DOGS of Full Throttle Productions (the F1 people)! Can't wait! One is a PCA event and the other is an FCA event!

tire size and wheel offsets make HUGE differences in if a tire package will fit...for example on my 928 Estate...a stock 84 S with 21mm rear spacer.....using 4 S4 rear wheels 16x8x52.3mm with 245/45-16 tires it rubbed at every corner...it took a bit of fender rolling to clear..that was pretty easy really...Kibort did it in minutes at SITP last year.....

Then I installed Seans "rain" tires on 18x10x65mm front with 265/35-18 tires and 19x11x63mm rears with 295/30-19 tires that cleared easier than the 245's....

The widow in my avatar has 18x10 9" backspacing front wheels that clear 295/30-18's with minimal rolling & can still do good U turns...but thats a custom wheel at $750 each...

I have custom Kinesis rims 18x10fr and 18x11 rear. The fronts are 9.5 now because the inner rim hit the sway bar on tight corners. still have 285 on the front though. yes, these do stay inside the fender.
