If she was 18 you should have.

Everyone always is amazed with the flip up lights, it's been so long since even the vettes had anything like it.

Though it is irritating to have to pull beyond 120 just to outrun a new bmw 335 diesel!

James, Problem here is that there are so many Pana's and exotic stuff that we just blend in! Heck, just last week I was visiting a friend a mile away and a nice late S4 rolled by, and we saw 3 Panamericas, including a turbo! On my street here before i moved we had 3 928's, and now there are 3 within a mile in my new house! There was a Pana turbo on my street a few weeks ago, and the driver would not even take a few minutes to chat with me - looked like he didn't speak English anyway :-(
I'll take pics and post on Saturday.

My best story is with my prior S4, Marine Blue 1987. We had a local ghetto car wash open in a respectable former gas station. I went there once on a whim because the guy that owned it, knew what he was doing and even knew a little about the 928. All of his employees (day laborers) would ask the questions about "is it a ferrari?" (because P-O-R-S-C-H-E spells ferrari ) or "is that the latest model?", etc...

I made it a habit of stopping in when they weren't busy on weekends (people shy away when it hits 100F in the summer) and the owner would wash my car. One time I told him, you ever noticed that once I pull in and you work on my car, you have 3-5 cars line up behind me? Now these other cars weren't beaters but Benzes, Rovers, other Porsches (urr...I mean Ferraris) and high end American SUVs wanting full details to get rid of junior's slurpee from the backseat before hubby found out.

He said, "Yeah. you're the rainmaker " He then said, I tell you what. Everytime you bring your car in and there is no one here; if 4 cars come in behind you, your wash is free.

I got free washes for about 6 months until drug dealers started financing his operation and he started washing police cars, permanently

I just about fell out of the car. My smile must have gone from ear to ear in an instant. I told her she was right and told her I was absolutely amazed that she knew what kinda car it was--can't remember her exact reply but I think she just said that she always like them (yeah, ever since she was two???). Anyway, if I was 16 I'd have asked her on a date!
You need to get her name and any details so that any of the teenage kids of 928 owners can marry her when she comes of age!

A little OT, but I went to look at an early '85 944 after about a year with my '89 n/a (summer driver/show car), it looked like the perfect candidate to gut for a/x and keep costs reasonable.

When I got there the car was in good shape to be gutted, but the odometer had already rolled at least once (5 digit). I knew I was going to pass due to miles, but asked a few more simple questions to be nice, and the guy says to me, "yeah this one runs real good, its fast, it's even got the 928 body kit on it".

It took all my energy to hold back the laughs because as far as the exterior was concerned, I pulled up in an identical car. I love the stupid crap people come up with.

When I lived across from a Municipal building, I had my '85 parked out front and an older gentleman, suit and tie (I assumed he was an Alderman or something) approached the car from behind as I was getting out and said "What kinda car is that, an Edsel?"...fighting to be polite as I possible, all I could come up with was: "Seriously?.. Edsel?..read the bumper".

The thought of that man sitting at a table making decisions about my community still haunts me.

^^^^^^
LOL! Edsel! OMG!!! To say this guy is "not a car guy" would be an insult to all who are not car guys! This guy is barely coherent! Maybe temporary insanity?!

Feel free but be careful. One time I thought for sure I was going to get sucker punched. The guy had no idea what kind of car it was but he knew I was being a smart-*** about it.

Close to a popular answer to the question: "Is it real??" replica Cobra owners hear all the time. A fun answer is: "You see it too? I thought it was just my imagination!!!"

Q:Is it fast in the quarter?

A:If you'll agree to buy me a new clutch, maybe we can find out.

Back in 2002 I went to check out the new BMW M3 (E46 chassis) and not even 10 minutes had gone by when 4 or 5 salesmen were out ogling my Venezia Blau 88 S4. The sales manager came out and quitely chastised them and then tried to talk up the M3 while giving my 928 back handed compliments. I ended up with an Audi S4 a few months later.

On a positive note, years later I was returning from Orange County in a white 89. Motoring along around 80mph or so, I moved over for a fast approaching set of headlights. Turned out to be a Ferrari 550 or 575. The car slowed when it got beside me and an older gentleman looked my car over, gave me a thumbs up and kept on going. I felt pretty good about that.
