Default CIS - now to learn this system

For my new to me 79 auto.

I've been reading posts for a couple days now with "CIS" in the title from several searches. I know I need to get a set of gauges... and to check ALL of my vacuum lines....

My car runs beautufully... possibly smooth enough to balance a nickel on the spyder body (ok, maybe not THAT smooth)... but nice and smooth.

My problem is that upon cold startup, it fast idles upwards of 1600-1800 RPM for about 90 seconds... then slowly retreats to a low idle of appx 1000... and no lower.

Vacuum leak? Would that have a proportionately higher RPM value for cold and warm conditions? I'm just getting started, but your insights are welcome.

Thanks!

the higher idle when cold is normal but it may be a slight bit too high.
I would investigate the vacuum lines and any other lines that carry air first.

Roger that, fast cold idle... I'm with you, it is too high, both cold and warm. I haven't even yet pulled the air cleaner box to fully look around. It may be an easy fix if there's a blatent cracked/broken line. We'll see when I can get it into the garage...
