Default Weird. Factory PS Belt Does Not Fit

I opened the hood to see my power steering belt corded after tonight's drive. I thought it was not an issue until I got under with the replacement and found out it will not fit. I have backed the tension off on the pump and console completely and cannot get the factory's 13x1000 belt.

Now it gets interesting... the one now is a 13x1025 and the tension and fit was absolutely perfect during the entire ownership of the car. I am a little stumped right now..

IIRC it takes quite a bit of prying with a screwdriver to get the belt on there.

I had to use a screwdriver to lever the belt on to the damper while turning the engine over by hand. I had the adjustment backed off all the way too. Think I had to do the same with the air pump belt. Tight fit!

The pulley on the power steering pump is in two separable halves, connected with three 10mm(??) bolts. With the pulley outer half removed, you can put the power steering belt into position, then gently do up the three bolts to properly bolt the outer 1/2 of the pulley into place, whilst turning the assembly every now and then to make sure it all bolts up nice and smoothly. All this with the adjustment backed right off of course.

I think all the belts are that way. I was able to push my PS belt onto the pulley with my thumbs, and then bump the starter to pull it the rest of the way into place. Would be very careful using tools to 'lever' the belt for fear of gouging the pulley, which in turn, could tear up the new belt

I use a tad bit longer belt, can't remember the size, because I hate prying on that stuff.

It's probably a 13x1025 also just like on mine. It fits so much better than a 13x1000 factory belt.

Amazing what an extra 1/4" will do. Sean, posted that just for you!

I also have to remove the pulley from the PS pump to install a new belt. Once you remember to loosen the retaining bolts BEFORE you loosen the belt so you can easily get the bolts broken loose it is much quicker than trying to pry the belt onto the pulley.
