IIRC, the factory spacer is 21 mm. You can get a 15 mm set that will stop the rubbing but will not set the wheels in so far that they look bad.

Without the spacer I either have to get new bolts, cut the old bolts or get new lug nuts or modify the old ones. Or try a smaller spacer.

Ah, I just saw the thread on using an open nut to hold the wheel and then the factory lug nuts on top of that when removing the spacer. i will try that and see how it looks with no spacer and go from there.!

Hmm, there might be a different clearance on an S4, or a different offset on Cup II wheels? I have the same wheel/tire size as you report, 225/40 on 18" cup II, but I never have any rubbing on my 88. Maybe the PO changed spacers to set it up.

You rear ride height also looks to be on the high side of the spec; front looks OK unless not settled yet. (The rear settles as soon as you roll the car, but the front takes 30-100 miles)

Problem with M415 21mm spacer is that its not bolt on like 17mm '89 GT spacer. Those extra long studs can stick out too far unless they are changed or cut. IIRR Cup 4 do not have much empty space at the back between bolt holes.

If you have the original 21 mm slip-on hub-centric spacers, why don't you determine just how much less spacing you would like to have and then have the spacers turned or milled down by that much. Then, if the lug bolts are too long, consider replacing them, or simply use steel open ended lug nuts and covering the resulting exposed lug bolt with an original cap nut, as suggested. If you think the capnut will be sticking out too far, have them machined down to as much as you need to simply cover the exposed end of the lug bolt. They don't need to be complete since they will be merely cosmetic in nature.

I could also use these extra long lugnuts too right?

I have never seen those before, but they might work, depending on just how much more lug bolt is needing to be covered up and have the nuts tight. One thing I notice about these you are asking about is that they apparently have a cone at the bottom rather than the curved face of most Porsche nuts. I personally am not impressed with that cone style of finish on the bottom since it doesn't mate with the recess in the wheel very well. There seems to me to be too little nut-to-wheel contact for my taste.

The extra long lug nuts did not work for me when I removed my spacers.
I do use them on the front to bring the Lugs out flush w/ the rims and in the back I use the steal open lugs and cover them with the stock length lugs.
One of these days I will get another set of long for the rear also to bring them out more but that may depend on the style of the rims you have and may not be needed.

Those rims look great on you shark!

My GTS came with open lug nuts, leftover from its track-day existence. The lug nut holes in the Cup 4 are narrow and deep enough that you don't really see the lug nut anyway unless you're really looking for them.

Vertex sells them, dunno whether any of the big 3 have them in stock:

Those will not work as they have a conical seat and Porsches use a spherical (ball) seat.

I've resorted to putting on the open nuts and then regular nuts after them. Then kind of stick out then. What might be best is extra-short nuts, in chrome or polished alloy, and then use them after open nuts. That'd be as short as possible.

Nonetheless, I've "watched" that auction.

So. Open nuts is probably the way to go. Jerry is nice enough(insisting in fact lol) to machine some spacers he has down to 15mm and send them to me! either way i should make it work with open nuts.

They are done. I'll ship them tomorrow. Now, that you are figuring out the best way to deal with the nuts, if you let me know how much bolt is left sticking out after you put the open steel nuts on, I'll try to maching some material off the alloy cap nuts and sent you 10 of those. Enjoy.

By the way, I figured out that reducing the 21mm spacers to 15mm is just about the limit I can go and still have them be hub-centric. Any more and the centers are going to fall out.
