Default I just cloned my 928. Did I make a big mistake?

So purely by chance and by total impulse I just bought another 928. It's an 80 Petrol Blue which is the same color as my '79. Has the same NLA OEM bronze glass as my 79 too. She had $4,500 in recent service - including all new injectors and fuel pumps. Car is an auto with sunroof and no rub stripes. Headlights go up and down. Oil is dirty but dip stick is to the top and no anti freeze in the oil. Windows have new switches and work too. Body is straight and paint is quite good. Only real flaws on the outside are the bumpers are both spidered. Brand new tires all around. Cookie Cutters in good shape. Has slotted rotors all around. Sunroof is sagging in the back about a half inch when closed. Dash is leather but pealing a little. Seats are ripped but not as bad as others I've seen. Door panels are quite good. Car starts right up and has good oil pressure but it is running rich. Recently state inspected and passed. Engine seems dry. Has new air tubes with stickers on them. Couldn't drive the car as it's not insured so I could have just bought a money pit from hell.

So take a look at the pictures and tell me if I made a mistake or not. I don't really know why I bought this car. The price was good of course. So what do I do now? Do I make a fancy Ebay post and flip it? I'm leaning more towards thinking I should have a NJ GTG and see if someone can teach me how to wrench on it. If it was a 5 speed it would be the track car I always wanted.

Is that a Weissach 911?

I wish the Weissach 928's received the same interior treatment. Friend of mine has one (911 version) with about 15k on the odo.

As for the 928....keep it until I'm in the market since that is one of the three colors of spoiler-less OB's I have on my list

Great minds think alike :-). Those are my top three picks too. I believe the model is Mexico blue and the same color as that car called Blue Max. I would pick them at Mexico Blue #1, Petrol Blue #2 and Kermit #3.

Last fall I found a 78 in Chicago some shade of blue I liked, complete with pasha. The car was far from perfect but good enough for my intentions at the time.

It was on eBay - no reserve. By the time the seller responded to my e-mail about stopping down and making a cash offer the auction was over. Damn thing sold for half what I was going to give him for it.

Pasha on any of those colors would be perfection. Just like Kermit and Blue Max.

I think that one is Minerva Blue...

The spidered front & rear bumpers screams "poorly prepped repaint"... is that it's original color & does it match in age appearance with other inner parts of the car?

Barry, you beat me to it!! Minerva Blue is the color you guys are looking for!

Paint the front and rear bumper covers, get that damn antenna off the roof and clean up the interior as much as possible (think SERIOUS PRO DETAIL) and enjoy it or flip it then...

BTW, we call those wheels PHONE DIALS, NOT cookie cutter...cookie cutters are the black wheels that came on early 944's and were NEVER offered on 928's.

I like the car...Petrol Blue is a classic, I prefer Kermit green though and I do like Minerva as well!

Yep, the Bleumax is minerva blue.
I am partial to the petrol blue too, however. I love the new one and your existing one too. Keep it, clean it up, catch up on the maintanence, and drive it. Keep the other one for those special occasions. I can certainly understand grabbing another. I think about that sometimes too. I love driving these cars so much, and now I have one that I don't drive a whole lot because I want to keep it fresh, I really need another just to tool around in.

Nice catch

What are all the cool colors on the coasts?

Only colors I find around here are black, red, or white.

Wow, I must be getting senile. I never called phone dials cookie cutters before. I better up my vitamin's. I think my 85 911 had Cookie Cutters too but it's been @15 years.

Your Avitar is Mexico blue right? That's the color I thought the 928 model was. I know they only come in white and blue. Just thought it was Mexico blue.

Just broke the news about the 928 buy to my wife a few hours ago. She said I better not plan on keeping it long. She thinks one 928 is enough. I told her it's an auto, so she could drive it too. She wasn't impressed. My 8 year asked if we can keep it for his first car. That went over better. Go figure. In the mean time, I'm looking forward to driving it. Other than my 79 -- I never drove another early car. I'm curious to see how they compare.

I'd get ride of the antenna but looks like the PO put a hole in the roof for it! BTW, Big difference inside headroom between my non sunroof car and this one. I didn't realize it was that different.

I can totally understand this; I am seriously considering cloning my 69 Spitfire.

The car looks pretty good, and it is my favorite color.

Good luck with it.

Sweet,

BLUE82 in my avatar is ARROW BLUE! Not Mexico... I do like Mexico pretty well though too! Very close to Arrow. I think Maritime Blue might be my all time fav though!

Yea, keep the car for your 8 year old and enjoy it for the next 8+ years before you pass it on to him.

On the roof antenna you could at least switch out that ugly POS with one of the "shark fins" in carbon fiber or something like that instead of that ugly dated thing...and it would hardly cost anything either.

If mama prevails and you have to part with it call me... I don't have an '80 yet.

And yes, HUGE headroom diff between sunroof and non-sunroof cars!
