Default Rearview mirror

Looking for an OEM rearview day/night mirror that mounts on the circular mounting base in great shape that you would like to sell ? Thank you, 77Tony

Nice upgrade to switch to an auto-dim (911) or multi-function mirror (Gentex). Just stick on the specific button that goes with the type of mirror you want, run a couple wires, and you're there

I'd agree - the stock mirror is one of the crappiest parts of the car & so is the non-articulating mount.

I'd recommend removing the old mount and gluing the new one directly to the glass (not to the old mount) - I've done both and the tab to tab always fails...

Gentex or Donnelly mirrors.

That rearview mirror is superfluous and detracts from the appearance of the 928.

It should be deleted.

I think it would be great to find an update here, but my concern is that bracket/button. A new windshield usually comes with one, because it is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get a new one to stick there. My new 928 actually has a crack there, because I believe some redneck in SC tried to push a new one on and cracked the windshield nearly in 2. Once they fall off, I have never seen a permanent fix.

Thats said, how many porsches used this metal button bracket, and what are our options for that specific piece?

I just don't like the auto dimming type mirrors. They look a little distorted at night and don't seem to dim as much as the day/night type mirrors. I also think that $80 + shipping is a little ridiculous for a new OEM day/night mirror. Just thought someone might have one for sale. The glass in mine is shot. Thanks, T

if you decide to use another mirror then it may require removing the old Button,

To do that you need a lighter and pair of pliers,
simply heat the button with the lighter a few times instead of all at once so it heats slowly,
then with the pliers use a twisting motion, back and forth till it twists off.
Warning do not pry or push on the glass, you will crack the glass.
To fit a new button the glass must be clean as well as the button clean first with acetone then alcohol then the window primer one drop of adhesive then press where you want the button use a piece of blue tape on the outside of the glass to mark the spot.
Note if you use a newer mirror make sure to place it up high so it wont block your forward vision some of the newer mirrors hang lower then the original, also make sure its correctly aimed to the rear as well before you mark the spot

What Glue Merlin? I've never seen any that stuck. Especially not in sunny regions.

Loctite makes a mirror install kit,
it seems to work very well if the directions are followed,
it includes a primer and cleaner and glue for one mirror install, found at autozone, checker, advance auto, pep boys

I've used this on both of my 928's. The 81 at least eight years ago, still on. I've taken the mirror on / off the metal clip a number of times since, no issues.

No way am I going to attempt to switch out the mounting brackets and take the chance of snapping my brand new windshield. Still looking for a OEM Day/Night mirror in great shape. Thanks, T

Switching out the mounting bracket sounds scary but is easy. I have a new windshield and took mine off with Mr.Merlin's instructions. Easy Peasy. Got to remember, don't pry, just twist.
