Hmmm, a 15 would be possible, but you certainly couldnt fit an amp in there.

I did run across an interesting ~8" driver from Wavecor:

http://www.wavecor.com/html/sw223bd01.html

Looks like it loves a small sealed enclosure and then lots of power... which we certainly can do.

I am ordering a test sample. If it performs in person like it does in simulation... we may have a new configuration. Nothing plays a articulately as an 8" driver, and one with this much low-end extension may be the perfect option for the 928.

Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks
Hans

Recently, I began working on a second style of this system. There will be alot going on with the new offering, so I really needed to get a tub cut out of a donor car to check the fit and be able to cut inspection windows. It gave me a great opportunity to check the fit of the original fiberglass part from the SW1. I am attaching a couple pictures, as it really turned out great, and really impressed me looking at it again. Bare in mind that the last two pictures showing the spare-tire hold-down bracket, where the enclosure touches is because the tub is normally suspended from the frame, which draws the entire tub upwards.

Hopefully there will be some new pictures to share soon, but in the meantime....

Thanks
Hans

The SharkWoofer is on a discount while the new door speaker kit is in its pre-sale pricing. For the next couple weeks, SharkWoofer enclosures will be discounted to $350. Pre-assembled SharkWoofers with a 10" subwoofer will be $450. This is the lowest price this system will be for some time. It will be discounted with speaker purchases in the future, but not to this level. Get yourself a great present this year

Thanks
Hans

Nice Job guys! Are there any plans on an 10in. version the does not require the removal of the spare tire?

I dont think that a 10" version would work with the spare still installed. I am willing to bet I could do an 8" version though. If that would be of interest, I could work something up.

Thanks,
Hans

I would definitely be interested in that. I don't want to lose the spare just to upgrade the bass in the sound system.

I can get cracking on that next week. Shouldnt take very long to get it developed. I dont see any way to squeeze the amp in there though, so it would be a passive solution.

Thanks

Any way to make it slightly smaller so an amp could fit? Something along the lines of this:

I've seen one of those in the past, and it has a pretty small subwoofer inside. There is a lot of space in there for a bigger one.

If you can hunt down a small amp, then I will take a look and see what can be done. Off the top of my head, I am not aware of any amps tiny enough to pull it off. There are some OEM modules available, but I would need to order 500units minimum... so that wont work.

I will try and do some research next week, but the physical size of the easily available amps are what would limit this project.

Thanks
Hans

If its going to happen, its going to be this spring. I have talked with the owner of the company who made those 12's, and offered to help get them back in production. If I can, I will.

I am also hoping that someone else makes a similar driver in the near future.

There are a couple 12" drivers out there which I have not tested... mathematically, they dont appear as a good match, but there is no substitute for trial and error. There is a 12" version of the 10" driver I use now, which is quite affordable, as well as a Kenwood 12, and Earthquake 12, and an MBQ 12 which all should fit. They all seem to prefer a ~1.25ft^3 enclusure (mine is approximately 0.6ft^3) so you can see that the QTC (total system Q) would be quite high, which generally leads to a very boomy sound and poor low frequency performance. However, its possible it could sound great... just dont know till its been tested.

Thanks
Hans

May be an enclosure that fits a 10 in sub with an external (remote mounted) amp? This should help with some of the design challenges fitting a 10in sub, yes?

The spare itself consumes too much volume to fit any 10" driver that I have found. Same problem for the amp. I am trying to find an amp module with acceptable terms, but if you want to keep the spare, its going to be with an 8" driver (unless something new becomes available).

Thanks
Hans
