Well done Roger ! Don't forget the software on a CD-ROM to go with the kit. Ver 6.0.13 is the current version.
The other item is the Sharkplotter program. The (free) licence for its use is usually on an individual basis. I will discuss this with Jim Corenman.

I'm glad that someone is finally doing this. So, still no option for 85-86 cars? I know that the person squawking the most for a ST'er rental was Tampa 928s, but he has an 85.

The whole "Sharktuner/Sharkplotter" thing is a magnificent thing...but it really isn't all that easy and takes some considerable time to fully understand to use it properly. I spent months (finally giving up) trying to use and understand the original Sharktuner...and never did really make it work properly. There's a guy out there trying to beg, borrow, or steal an Sharktuner 1, to tune his '85/'86 engine, and I would not even consider loaning it to him....I know that I'd spend more time on the phone helping him than I could ever get paid for.
Should be an interesting experiment, in patience.

Greg:
I agree, but the smart cookies will grok enough, and have some local resources..and hey, some organic learning will help the whole community at the same time.
However, very valid points...indeed.

It is great that the sharktuner is being made more available.
I also think it is a great move for all involved, including John. And this is why...
The DIY 928 guys will be able to tinker without making the full investment in ST.
Those that are able to learn to tune will see the value of the ST and buy one.
Those that aren't able to learn to tune will see the value in having a ST Tech tune their cars.
By providing "free" support to the ST renters, they will be indirectly selling STs and ST Tech tuning services.
Me personally, I've spent time piggyback MAF tuning on my 951, I got quite good at it and I'm still more interested in ST Tech tuning services than DiY.

I have no arrangement with Roger to assist his rental customers. I expect Roger to have arranged this himslef. I have no direct commercial or other involvement. I was not consulted.
I welcome Roger's initiative in respect that it will help raise the profile of the SharkTuner. I think a "taster" rental session will encourage some customers to then purchase their own SharkTuners.

I'm flabbergasted that you would "support" this idea. If Roger isn't able to provide "technical" support for the rental customers, it seems like you (and potentially Jim Corenman) are going to be spending a ton of time answering questions from "rental" customers, without being compensated for that time.

The one thing I have learned from Greg is that what ever I do it is wrong. I guess I have a thick skin.
In fact what everyone else does is wrong in Greg's book. If we all listened to Greg none of us would be in business.
We are renting sharktuners - if you do not know how to use a ST or are not prepared to read the manual do not rent a ST.
The market asked for the opporunity to rent a ST we provided the product.

I'll throw my $0.02 in the mix.
I think those that are considering doing a rental and thinking they can get their car tuned in one weekend are going to be greatly disappointed. In my experience, it takes at least a couple of weeks and here's why.
1. The first time you hook up the shark tuner, you may find that you've got a bad knock sensor, MAF, or some other issue that will prevent you sharktuning. So you'll need to fix that issue first.
2. There can be connectivity issues with the sharktuner itself (usually on the car side of things). I found an '87 where the diag port was mis-wired. On my GT, if I hit a big enough bump the Shark tuner will lose connectivity.
3. Learning curve. It takes a while to figure stuff out. The SharkPlotter helps, but you still need to understand how it all works.
4. Dyno. You even whisper the word "Dyno" and your car will fall apart. Seriously!
I think you need to plan on at least two weekends with a helper. At that point you're halfway to the price of your own SharkTuner, so why not buy it yourself and have the ability to take your time and get the best support available.
That said, if you know how to use one and are sure you only need it for a weekend, then this is an economical way to do that.
