I doubt the lack of suction by the alternator will have much effect on the air temp sensor. I would guess that if you can see a part of the unit's rear cover (with perfs in it) when its installed, you could usefully duct air from the hose into it. If there was a way to get the hose end close to the rear cover, and attach it to a bracket of some sortm and then tape the hose to the rear cover, it might help control the temperature, may even extend the life of the unit.
