I'm re-installing the instrument pod but I think I've missed a ground cable, se picture. Can anyone tell me where it should go? Its an 928S 1983 (euro) with po from hell. Its connected at the ground point under the steering wheel.

need a better picture
it might be for the cruise control at the switches fitted to the tops of the brake or clutch pedal.
otherwise there isnt any ground wires that go to the pod besides the ones already grafted into the respective harnesses

this is a bad picture of the ground spot under the steering wheel. as you can see there are some brown wires atached to the spot and one thicker black one. does anybody know where the black wire should be connected to or is it some kind of aftermarket/stereo stuff?

928 grounds are brown. Black is power or aftermarket/PO stuff.

From you first pic it appears to be female QD rather than a ring, in which case it doesn't go to that ground point but rather, one of the items Mrmerlin suggested or dimmer reostat or wiper delay or intensive washer, etc.
