I am interested in swapping out my giant old compressor for a newer, lighter one. Does anyone know if rotary-style compressors require any other equipment changes? I expect to make a bracket to adapt to our engine- thats not a problem. I just don't know what other things would need to be swapped- evap, dryer, condenser, switches?
Any AC guru's out there able to advise?
Thanks
Steve

You may need to revise the amount of oil you put into the system, but other than that, there shouldn't be anything extra you need to do. Of course, you will need custom hose assemblies.
Curious, is this only for weight savings? For A/C performance, switching to a parallel-flow condenser is the ticket. This may also save some weight, and it would be easier since you would be getting custom hose assemblies anyway.

Correct barrrier hoses. Mounts work nice. Reasonably priced. I use them, whenever I'm not using a stock compressor. If you want to save a bit more, I could have him drop ship you the kit.
Your other option is to use the later stock Denso compressor and brackets. I've got a supplier that is selling brand new Denso compressors with clutches, for less than I can get a decent rebuild, right now. I've got all the brackets and pieces. Throw in a couple of new hoses and you've got it made.
I'm taking apart an absolutely flawless '90 car that got hit in the rear and bent the frame. Perfect hit. Gas tank is perfect and rear wing is perfect. Chassis is junk. Very sad. If you want to change to the later condensor, there is a "virgin" in that car.

Greg. What can one expect to pay for the Kuehl compressor and barrier hoses (both)?

Greg, I am looking to replace it with a much smaller rotary- type compressor. Its about 25% of the size of the current one- came out of a Subaru legacy, so it should have enough capacity to cool my smaller car.
In fact, any items I can swap out of the system for smaller lighter ones, I would do.
I can make any bracket or hose end neede, I just can't make the entire hose....
