Well an old chestnut this one.

I have driven both variants and believe it all boils down to what you want to use it for. I have an auto- not by choice- simply what was available at the time I purchased both 928's. Nivana would be a 5 or 6 speed version of this the MB auto tranny if there was such a thing or more to the point, a 6 speed version of the double clutch box now available on current models but.......

The trick with the auto box is ensure the kickdown cable is well lubricated with sewing machine oil and then adjust the kickdwon cable tension so that it is about 3 turns tight instead of 1 turn slack. @First gear starts on part throttle guaranteed. The vac modulator on the gearbox should be biased towards firm/quicker shifts and most importantly, the kick down switch should be jumped. When set up correctly, the car should bumble along at 70 mph but change down to third with only very slight throttle pressure. I find this set up irresistable and although I have a spade connector in the bypass circuit to return it closer to stock, I never have the connector undone unless I am doing something that requires holding gears longer.

As others have already stated the MB box is virtually indestructible and can take a whole lot more torque if you blow the motor. I also recommend dumping the stock tee lever and fitting momo ****. Not sure it actually adds any performance value but it sure makes the car feel better.

I also agreee with others that you can also track the auto but ultimately I believe the manual tranny is going to be clearly superior on the track.

No clear winner here- just "different strokes for different folks" as it were.

Jeff I would LOVE to see a thin skin for the top of the door sills... personally since EURO85 is pretty much Red with Black I would want mine to be a black sill (or if it were anything else I would just get some nice looking black with red accent carbon fiber look wrap for it! That would be kind of cool actually) and I'd love to just see the standard cut outs for "928" on it... that is just me...it would be BEST if the plate had a bend that covered the outside edge of the factory sill too because a lot of times it is the black bits below the "928" that break off and you catch them when getting in and it just gets worse and worse over time...that would also help line it up better too...

I was thinking there are a number of ways this could be interpreted. For instance, since less power is lost driving a torque converter, it could be that less 5-speed owners feel that the car is underpowered and needs forced air. Most likely, though, the majority of boosted sharks are auto because the majority of sharks are auto.

So, all you automatic racers, there is a big difference between rowing through the gears on the highway vs the closed course, but is there any special way to row up and down through the gears on a closed course.

I remember Marc White telling me to go from 1 to 2 then quickly up to 3 and back to 2 to hold it in 2nd....any other tricks. Or is there a way to rpm match before downshifting ? Too bad we cant have some sort of control like a paddle shift telling the transmission what to do or will the auto do it just the same as paddle shift? wow too many questions......sorrry

I think the auto guys need the extra time and hands to pick their noses while driving. I think your more connected with the car when driving a manual. They are sluggish , but they are really fun especially 3rd gear.
