I'm installing a new clutch on my '84 model. I forgot to mark the flywheel and crankshaft to make it a breeze during installation as far as knowing which way to bolt it back on. The workshop manual says, "Align marks on flywheel (cast boss) and crankshaft (punch mark)". I have found the cast boss on the flywheel. It is a raised line about a half inch long; however, I can't find the punch mark on the crankshaft. I'm wondering what surface of the crankshaft I need to be checking for the punch mark. I have provided a picture with all the different faces numbered. If anyone can provide any insight as to which face I need to be checking for an indentation, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I answered my own question with a little parts cleaner and a rag. The punch mark was covered in a slight coating of rust. It's on surface number six. The furthest edge of the crankshaft towards the rear of the car, that sits flush with the face of the pilot bearing race. It's about the diameter of the ball in a ball point pen, but it's there. It's time to get to work.

The crankshaft and the flywheel have the 9 bolts drilled in a pattern that only will allow them to be assembled one way. You will not need any punch marks.

I didn't realize they were drilled only to line up one way. I thought they were evenly spaced. Oh well. It was much easier lining up the punch mark and the casting boss than turning the flywheel bit by bit to get the bolts to line up correctly.
