I'd just get one from Mark, there's so much confusion from non-928 vendors about what fits what year with which clutch and which pulley. Google '928 porsche 6E171 compressor"' and look at what years various parts places quote as needing a 6E171. Most of them get it wrong.

If your 6E171 is not totally busted up, you could try rebuilding it yourself. The one I did many years ago on an '86 still works today. Seals cost ~$30 at most.

If all you need is a 6E171 clutch, maybe you can find a match here:

Is there a way to test the clutch and or compressor? The compressor belt was off when I bought my 79 and PO had no history for the short time he had it. I have since pulled the compressor and have it in the garage. I also got a spare part box with the car that has another compressor that I also have no history on other than it is much cleaner than the one on the car.

thats a good question. im not sure if the rubber failed due to the compressor ceasing, or just weak, old rubber.

Hi Duc,

I bought a AC Compressor for my '88 from http://www.techchoiceparts.com/

The rebuilt compressor was $224 (no exchange required) and a new reciever/dryer was $15

Had it all installed and recharged, everything works great.

They do the rebuilds inhouse, so you might want to call them and see what they can do for you.

Duc--

There is no 'rubber part' of the clutch. There is a friction surface that gets pulled into a flat metal face by the magnetic coil. Usually, if you see something that looks like rubber, it's melted insulaton from the clutch coil itself.
