Default Thanks for all the info

I love this group, it makes owning a rather complex sports car much much less scary and more enjoyable.

WP/Timing Belt was my first DIY on my 928. I was all in for about a $1000 in parts (did belts and hoses) and that coincided with X-mas time so it was quite a hit. I put over 1000 miles since then with no concerns including a great beach trip to the gulf coast this weekend. I love the car but the costs lying ahead are a little scary. I negotiated the purchase down $1000 b/c I did not know the clutch status but the TB/WP was supposedly known. I think the mechanic overtightened the belt trying to skip the re-adjust and that's why the WP froze laterally into the side of it's housing and the belt burned on the pulley until I noticed and shut her off and towed her home. I got very lucky there. I did post the pics back in Dec/Jan. Next expense is shocks and springs. I come from stiffer cars, an '82 911 I've had for 15 years and a couple of 914's. I want the 928 to handle closer to these and I am very sensative to the float or roll that my 928 has now probably still sporting it;s original shock. Kind of feels more like a modern sedan than a sports car right now. I also need a fuel line refresh. I don't want to dump all the money into the clutch (which works fine despite the cheap embarrasing squeek) and like Hilton said I have other maintenance to spread the dollars around to. I am going to start with Fred's TO bearing and add the pilot, bushings and maybe a disc as well. Hopefully everything else looks fine.
Thanks,
Diehard

The 944 bellhousing is part of the torque tube...bad idea.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if a slightly worn guide tube can cause clutch issues?

Also Diehard914, I would replace that TO bearing soon if possible. I can't speak for the '89 but my '84S TO bearing made a similar noise, then seized completely and destroyed the pressure plate. Luckily the assembly needed replacement anyways, friction discs were worn to the rivets.

Dear OP,

if all you have is a squeak, are you sure this isn't simply the clutch pedal spring and lever mechanism inside the car? This little devil on my 944 squeaks on me sometimes, and I just spray lubricant on it and it goes away for a few months.
