Back in the day when the Barris brothers were building cars. It was George's older brother Sam that was the custom car builder, and master fabricator. George was the painter, and more importantly the promoter, and showman. George gets most of the credit, due to his self promotion. But the cars were really built by Sam Barris.
I remember when they had their Compton, Shop, before they moved to North Hollywood. It was always Sam doing the metal work, and wild fabrications. George was on the phone, talking trash.

The 328 is an 86 , I bought it for my son-in-law it just spent a few days in my garage He like F cars and kit cars so it is perfect for him. And yes it is/was a real Ferrari. It is however really too small for me to drive. That little flat crank V-8 does sound pretty good....

Very cool story James and that Manx looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have to agree with some here though, I'm glad the show didn't want to use our 928s.
HotWheels (Mattel) released their 1/64th scale version of the Meyers Manx as a First Edition in 2003. Pretty close looking to yours.

The real one was built as the model for the toy but they simplified it some .......then the CEO of Mattel kept it in her collection for many years...She is now head of Shelby America....

I like that video. Nice boat, Jim!
That Mattel car is fantastic in my opinion. Love it.
Here's some information on the origin of the style, but Jim probably knows all this stuff.
The design is as classic in its own way as the 928 and its resurgent.
It would be interesting to know if George or to Polecat's point , Sam or associates, actually participated in the build and when.
But there is also precedent for that team attaching themselves to cars inspired from the era.
Barris et. al. are usually justly credited with putting the T-front on the Bruce Meyers kit car body.
Maybe they did this work on special commision from Mattel, like the other cool work with the 60's batmobile, Munster's car, etc.
That and when would be intersting to know.
The style came from here.http://www.meyersmanx.com/history.shtml
Check out the "kick-out Manx SS" kit.
(I'm just an eastcoaster, too much time on my hands, reading stuff. Polecat was inside the Socal culture influencing it as it happened, BTW. Wouldn't be surprised if he knows Bruce Myers as well)

The music video was fun. Ashton was very nice as well. It is interesting to see how movies and T V progams are really made. That short video took a full day to shoot it !

Cool cars!
On a side note, isn't putting a turbo on a Ferrari motor asking for trouble? I don't know much about Ferrari motors but it seems the cars that are for sale have rebuilt motors at 15k miles. Are those cars that aren't taken care of or maintained right? Or does soome on that puts a turbo in a Ferrari not really care if they have to rebuild the motor every couple years?
