Default Window switch mounting repair?

My drivers side window was getting harder to press to bring the window up. What I found is the plastic or maybe metal piece on the console is broken. This is the part that switch clips under, does anyone have a fix to this, the switch it is dipping down in the front. It seems like it is a part of the center console and not repairable.

Edit: I did buy some plastic putty for this purpose but haven't tested it yet.

My '81 has the same problem on the passenger side. Would also be interested in any ideas.

I did something similar to the metal insert idea. I picked up a 1 x 8 inch piece of brass sheet metal at the hardware store. After removing all four switches I cut the strip to follow the shape of the front 1/4" of the good switch holes and copied the shape for the broken hole. I epoxied it in place. The switches sit just slightly high in front, but it is not really noticeable.
Good luck,
John

I did the same thing with my 90' S4. Much easier than taking the switch completely apart.

I think Jager or even Nicole has a metal insert that reinforces this area... maybe Carl does too.

O.K. don't laugh at this because it really worked. One day I was working on the intierior fixing small stuff like this, and for the life of me couldn't find anything laying around to fix this same problem. So I take a break and start hitting some of those soft foam golf ***** out in the garage. These are the yellow ones with a black dot on them with a hard center. Uppers, thats what I used, just slid it under the switch-and presto- all fixed. Mind you this is a temp fix, but works just fine. switch sits flat, amd the foam gives it a bit of cush.

I think the metal insert is made by the factory and installed to trim out the switch openings when the console is covered with leather. It also helps to shape the opening since the console is cut out underneath to allow sufficient clearance for the leather.
