thanks! i picked the hubs up at a junk yard, and plan to take them apart, clean, and rebuild for a later date. the hardest part was getting the parking brake springs off.........

Thats a cool tool and a great idea...

Now the hardest part may be installing the E brake springs correctly..

Heres how,
if you look on the backsides of the hub carriers you will see the holes the springs come through,
if you look carefully you will see little built up ribs on one side of the hole this is where the spring "Catches the hub",

NOTE if the spring is not placed on this rib it will eventually pull through and falling into the E brake shoes causing damage

the holding springs came of the ledges just fine, it was the "clamping" springs that were the fun part. now i need to figure out how to take the rest apart.

Great idea, neat weld. My OCD would have forced me to smooth the end.

Another reason I need to learn to weld. Yes, I understand it would take a while ( or never) to be anywhere near that proficient, but you gotta start sometime...

Nice concept and even better execution! Thanks for a solution to a problem I didn't know I had, but then again on the other hand I do have a pair of axle housings on the shelf awaiting something. I had not even considered how to take them apart, now I know! And to your welding, as a welder I should have taken up astrophysics or something similar.....maybe a welding class is in my future too....good idea I think....

after spending all day welding my qualification plates, cutting them, then bending them (bend test for strength), i did not want to touch a grinder again..... ill clean it up at some time. i might make a better one in my next machine class. or even find an old axle end flange (holds the ***** and cage) then make a better one....
