Default Finally a 928 again! - 1990 928GT

Hello all,

This is my first post and just a quick introduction. I'm happy to say that I have a 928 again and just couldn't be any happier. My latest acquisition is a 1990 928GT that I found for sale on 928 Registry. The PO had dumped a lot of money into it over the past couple of years getting it all sorted out and it has definitely met all my expectations!

It has been approx. 18 years since the last time I owned a 928. I had a 79 blk/blk Euro 5sp that I dearly loved followed by a 82 red/tan 5sp that didn't quite have the oomph of the Euro and then finally an 84 blue/blue auto that I didn't care for as much as the 5sp cars.

I had thought of picking one up again someday but that was about it until I ran across a guy locally who is the second owner of a real sweet unmolested 84 Euro 5sp. He said he would sell it to me and that is far as it went for almost two years. Well a few months ago the wife totaled out her Boxster S and decided she would wait awhile to get another one. With that I decided to take the money and buy me a 928 again. Since the local Euro guy had changed his mind, I decided that I would really like a GT or GTS 5sp that was either blk or slvr. Found out that I really couldn't afford a GTS but was able to swing a GT. So far the wife is getting tired of me saying how much I love my car! I really had forgotten what I was missing and don't see getting rid of this one anytime soon.

Many, many years ago I used to work on these things for a living but now work as an engineer. Better money but less fun! This is absolutely an outstanding site and I'm glad to be a part of it! I would also like to say thanks to Gary Knox who helped me out with my first upgrade to the car - a three spoke airbag steering wheel mod.

Congratulations! One of the better models of the 928 - not that I am biased or anything...

Too bad about the Boxster, but a GT makes for a nice upgrade!

Thats a nice car I hope you enjoy it.

Has your wife driven it yet on a road trip?
If she does you may lose the keys

Brian,

Welcome "back". Glad you are very happy with the car - and the 996/Boxster steering wheel. It's a fairly easy modification, and I'd NEVER go back to the OE wheel on my GTS. I like the appearance, the hand positions, and the safety of the horn actuation for this type wheel.

Good luck with the car, and as you've already learned, there is a WEALTH of information available on this forum, and the 928 Owners Club helps support a lot of regional get togethers (as well as an international meet every few years). I strongly encourage you to get to several of these if you can over the next few years. The 928 ownership community is filled with GREAT people.

Brian, you should make the trek down to DFW for one of the 1st Saturday breakfast events. Quite a few of the DFW folks usually get together just south of Denton at Andrew's Restaurant for breakfast on the first Saturday of each month. Its a great time to meet and socialize with the other local owners. OK City is just a stint down I35 :-)

Nice wife, 928 GT, and skills to tinker with it. What more to ask for?
Congrats!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I definitely will be getting plenty of use out of it. She is mechanically sound but I will continue to tinker with it. Did just install a CDR220 in it and it works great. I just need to get the faceplate modified so that I can read it.

The other item that I'm still on the fence about is to change the seats and carpet over to cashmere? I do like the black interior and it is in excellent shape, but man I sure like the looks of the cashmere on a black car. Paul Champagne's seats are hard to resist. If I change out to cashmere, I will have Paul do some donor seats. If I stay black, I will have Paul set me up with the sport upgrade and perhaps the Pascha inserts. Just can't quite make up my mind yet.

Thanks for the invite. I may just have to do that one of these times.
