Here is an aluminium original ball joint carrier .... followed by a pic of the steel carrier.

The aluminum ones chop out very quickly if you get excessive wear of the BJ and can lead to a front wheel folding out on you with potentially catastrophic consequences. It's worth going to the steel if you don't already have them.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure mine are steel, but I'll check them in the morning when I have the wheels off. Does an alignment shop need specific equipment for a 928?

Short answer ... an alignment shop needs to know how to align a 928 or they'll fail.

Read this post from the FAQ thread at the head of the thread list in this forum ... it should answer all your questions.

Trust your instincts ... many have heard those same words.

Maybe there's someone here who knows of a good shop near you ...

One easy way to check the ball joint being steel or aluminum when you cant see very good with the wheels on is using a magnet.

If it isn't mentioned in one of the articles in that link ... make sure you you soak all the alignment adjustment threads with penetrating oil well before the alignment to make sure all points can be adjusted easily and nuts/threads won't get butchered.

I got the right side tie-rod replaced, but the left side is giving me hell. I have the proper tools now (thin fan wrenches), I just want to make sure it's not reverse threaded or anything.

Does anyone have tricks for getting these loose? The ol' torch and tap won't work in this case I think.

Default Front strut/shock tower center screw and washer?

Can the blue arrow center nut simply be removed?
Also, is the red arrow a washer?
I'm interested in replacing both the center nut and the washer if its as easy as it looks to remove and replace.
Any thoughts/help much appreciated.

Don't undo the nut unless you're planning on removing the strut from the car to re-attach the new nut, after exposing yourself to a still-compressed but unconstrained spring while you're disassembling the shock assembly from the car. Bad idea jeans.

The red arrow is indeed a big *** washer.

As long as the car is on it's wheels, the weight of the car will keep the springs compressed, and it will be safe to remove those nuts.
