Because the Porsche one will make your 928 fan work a little longer.
I suspect that the real reason many of them fail is to much current draw from the blower motor, and they are really proud of them.

Has anyone tried repairing their resistor pack with new resistor wire? E.g. http://www.resistancewire.com/mainpage.php/
Looks easy to solder it in (after measuring and cutting the right length) an old resistor pack...

Couldn't you just ohm out a good one and replace the wire with equivalents? I haven't taken one apart so I don't know what they look like, so if this is a stupid question I apologize.

My 1988 W/215,000 mile ****box will survive on the stock wiring...well past the sun exploding...and it wont leak vacum until the moon leaves earth orbit.

No..I know its not cheap...and MOST of the time..the parts ive had to purchase have been very reasonable in cost...two things stand out so far on my list.
The automatic shifter handle
HVAC Fan resistor pack
Nothin else in the last $4k spent on the car (post purchase)..has been outta expectation for what the part is and does.

The resistor pack is pretty simple, and can usually be repaired. FWIW, solder doesn't work, standard resistors don't work...
If you buy a used one, make sure that you get the correct type - they do differ.

I did not see the price posted as I may need one and am also interested.
Can't be higher then anything else I have bought in the last 6 months.
I thought that the price of the engine gasket kit (paper and rubber) was high.
I totally got shafted by duty and customs on my steering wheel $150 over and above.
I know I made some bad choices, so how bad could a heater fan resister be?
