I agree completely. I have been DVR'ing Chasing Classic Cars of late and REALLY enjoy the auctions that you see there. Quiet, reserved, efficient. What more do you need! Certainly NOT all the yelling and screaming of these other yahoos!

Barrett-Jackson is not geared to selling sports cars.
They go where the money is. The late Tom Barrett
had a great collection of early cars Brass era- 30's & that's
what they sold then. With a 10% buyers prem, 8% sellers
prem + the entry fees for the seller & only so much time available,
they don't sell many lower end cars.
In the U.S., the major sports car oriented auctions
are in Monterey during the Pebble Beach / Historics weekend.

BJ is full of pin hooking car salesmen trying to ***** each other. Those cars are bought, loaded on a car carrier, unloaded a few days later, and immediately listed for sale again at some generic classic car lot at God only knows how much of a markup.

Went today and got a look at the '80 928 that sold. IIRC from the written description it is a one owner car. Looked at the odometer and it read about 76,000 miles. Wheels (16" phone dials, not 17" as written in the description) had scratches and could have used some cleaning and polishing. Paint, interior and overall car was OK, but didn't strike me as anything extraordinary. I was VERY surprised that it sold for $16,500 with buyers premium. I expected it to have sold for quite a bit less than that, BUT I hope it may be a good sign for 928 values in general...

But those mustangs and camaros are super RARE!!! Imports SUCK!!!

What I hate about Mecum is that they only have a car on the block for such a short time. It rolls off the block... ..."and the bid goes on." So you never know what these "rare" mustangs and camaros actually go for, or even if they made reserve.

I also DVR this. I dont like Waynes snobby attitude though. He knows his stuff, and has tons of money, so I guess, to me, he seems that way. I do like making fun of him though. "I chase classic cars, bark bark woof woof." "You got your uh snow wings on that plane?" "I really hate getting burned"

Im guessing he makes most of his money checking out cars for clients. I say this because to me it seems that every car he tries to auction never meets reserve. And when he buys cars for himself, not for clients, he picks the strangest vehicle that will never sell. They sell eventually, but most people dont hold on to a "for sale" car that long.

Anyway I tend to watch BJ hours at a time, although I dont really pay attention. Apparently the majority of the worlds population of "rare" mustangs" all reside in the DFW area. What tends to happen is Ill miss the non 60s+ domestics doing something, or Ill figure out what lot # Im really interested in and then a car or two before they show my husband makes me do something. I cant DVR that. If I do, it will record the ENTIRE day (or whatever it remembers me watching) Anyway, Ill come back and rewind, without recording. I will back it up to the point where the lot after it rolls up.

I dont remember seeing a 928 at all. I watched several days. I was watching the whole thing to see the fake JFK ambulance, and even though it was the next car or two, I still managed to miss it. Oh well. Maybe in 2 years Ill see it on BJ Spotlight. Im guessing the 928 was the first day? They tend to place the cheapos on that day.

Shame they didnt show it. If the public knew about them, their value would rise... ...especially since Im sure theyre sick of the same old mustang and camaros

You missed the car b/c they probably edited it out or just didn't record that auction. At one point there was whale tail 911?? next in line, burgundy, looked beautiful, but it was not shown.

There is no accounting for bad/bland taste. I think part of the problem is the knowledge base of the announcers; they can't comment on Pcars b/c they don't have a briefing book or they don't bother to get details so they would be in a mine field if they tried to talk about a 997. I don't watch it much anymore.
