Dashboard makers?
With as many 928s out there with a cracked dash it seems
someone has to have asked is there a third party out there
that will custom mold 928 dashboards with today's materials?
I've done some searching around -- and either I just couldn't find
it, or no one has found a solution or willing manufacturer.
Pointers?
In my case - I've got a leather dash with cracks AND curls -- and
I think it's the curls that are a real PITA.
sure would be nice to consider just replacing the dash with the material
used in todays new cars.

If you want an aftermarket, real dash, I think this is your only option

Mixed reviews here, search rennlist for them.
Someone here also has come up with a fiberglass plug for track versions.

^^^One of our locals had a dash from them, and it was too big and bulky. The edges were more rounded - as if someone had inflated it. It didn't leave enough clearance for the pod - which was also larger in dimensions.
I believe he replaced just the dash with an original one, and kept the pod.
It's hard to know how consistent these guys are - or if this was an exception. However, it was not usable as it was.

I realize his surface work is pure art form.
But my problem is that the underlying material is cracked and
more troublesome to me I believe -- curled upwards.
i can't imagine spending that kind of money and not
fixing the root cause.

Ditto. We have an unfilled niche on these, agreed.
I've stripped a pod down to the aluminum shell and this winter will look for a process or a manufacturer to correctly rebuild it. Bondo-fill, etc, is not that approach. Looks like a pressure mold process was used originally, with aluminum inserted and liquid polyurethane foam injected.
I've got another spare pod that might be useful for forming the mold. Not sure if I have the time, but we sure have the need.
