I agree with Dr. Bob that the coil wires are a good candidate as they are molested during the timing belt job, but your symptoms are consistent with a MAF issue. NO WAY should a car run exactly the same with the MAF attached or detached unless there is a problem with the MAF (unless it doesn't run at all, in which case it could be a lot of things). Do you have a 928 buddy with an 87-95 car who would allow you to borrow his MAF for a test?

Should also be able to use a '85 '86 MAF to test.

I borrowed a '88 MAF to trouble shoot a problem with MY '85 which did turn out to be a MAF issue.

I see you started another thread and that you found the MAF has a broken platinum wire. Mystery solved.

In your pictures, it looks like the pass side cam is one tooth out of time. This will cause poor running at low rpms and lack of power at higher rpms. But, it sounds like you have a bad maf also.

Timing marks were exact, although cruddy pictures. I found an overhauled unit from rich andrade in arizona, appears he overhauls 928 computers, maf, etc... he overnighted a new one to for for 375 and it did solve my problem. I have to recommend him to anyone if someone else is looking. Very nice work. 480-839-1937.

Thanks for all the suggestions, etc.
