Dan thats a great diagnosis there are yellow wires for the outside temp sensor, remove the headlight and check to see if you have the air ducting for the alternator installed and the temp sensor is in the metal housing for the tube , attached to the front of the fender block off plate

I have chased and chased the yellow wires and I have not found any current to them and I suspect that they are part of my right front marker light which does not work
I gave up and drove to Half Moon Bay and had a few beers on Sunday.
Question remains, just because these wires are just hanging there, where do they attach? There is no visible connection point

Boy you guys really do not like this guy.

You can access the temp sensor by removing the access panel under the fender. There is no reason to remove the head light.

How this works is easy. There are two temperature sensors. One is inside the car on the center console. The inside sensor has a little fan that circulates the cabin air and measures the differential temperature between the inside sensor and the one mounted outside under the left headlight. The one under the left fender is inside a metal round tube. This tube is connected to a fabric house that connects to the back of the alternator. The alternator sucks in air for cooling and in the process moves outside air by the sensor. The system then knows the inside and outside tempertature and can adjust the amount of heat or cooling produced based on the setting of the controls.

If the outside sensor is discounted then there will be no adjustment and only the maximum settings will work. There should be no electricity in the yellow wires as they are part of a bridge circuit measuring the resistance between the two ends of the circuit and the controller setting. This is actually the case for when Porsche used yellow wire which is uncommon. The electric latch on the hatch uses yellow wire and I think there is one other place but I do not remember where at the moment.

I suspect the outside sensor is missing. Many cars with age have displaced the sensor to the road.

Good luck

its actually easier to remove the headlight than the fender liner then the front block off plate then the sensor.

if these are the wires check the ends as they can have a faulty contact and cause the HVAC system to only give max hot or max cold

Did you take your headlight out just to show me the yellow wires?
How can I ever repay you if you did? I will go after tomorrow. Just been really busy with work...it's a curse
Thanks Merlin
