Default Legit question: engine won't ever fully warm up.

The engine never gets above the lower mark, no matter how long I drive it.

This summer I put in a bottle of Royal Purple coolant additive to deal with the hottest summer on record here. Do you suppose it's working too well for the winter?

If it gives you good heat from the heater, your car is fine!

We have 2 84 cars and one 86 car that very rarely go above that first line.

What temperature do you get in the radiator.

IMHO, those addatives work well to fight cavitation, but they dont make anything systems run cooler. The thermostat does that.

I do get slightly warmed air from the heater coil.

I reconnected the O2 sensor, surging/retracting issue is gone. Strange. I rolled back the idle air/fuel screw to the end of time, rough idle is cured, or it seems so.

Still running awesome with the fresh Redline oil.

The new Yokohama tires are beautiful!

I'm gonna buy an infrared thermometer this week and get back with you. It doesn't run like it's not warmed up, just concerned about the gauge reading. Yep, I know the gauges are really not to be trusted.

When warmed up, you need to feel very warm air from full heat or your thermostat is not working. Could also be an air lock but that should clear up through the expansion tank after refilling.

I'm thinking the same thing. The air is warm, but never hot.

Why should it?

It shouldn't fall in the normal range, between the two marks?

Maybe, sometimes.

But as you already know..its not a diagnostic quality gauge either.

Maybe the guage is not accurate but in your climate, you should feel hot air from the HVAC unless the thermostat is stuck open or check Wallys write up about vacuum problems or possibly the temp mixture motor that sets the flow to the hvac system. I will look for a better description and picture.

The temp control unit is above your right knee beside the steering column. At full hot it should have an arm that moves down with an electric motor that slowly moves. Its about the size of a deck of cards.

Thanks. I'd never heard of that thing before.
