Talking Another stereo thread..Santa was nice to me..

I found this, plug it's GPS unit under the tree today:

http://www.soundstream.com/Video%20P...sh/vir4344.htm

It was on my short list.

I DO like the CDR...but _really_ want BT hands free, the Traffic Pro is a nice minimalist GPS system, but is 5yrs old and a dead product for updates, and the Toronto 400 BT was also on the list..but came up short on GPS.

I think I will like this unit...single DIN, minimalist button arrangement, no japanimation..GPS when I need it, and some nice extras.

Will try to go plant it in tomorrow..NOT supposed to be raining.

Im also a weather nerd, and got this to put up on the mountain behind the house..currently zip-tied to the deck out front.

I hope everyone else made out just as well, and had a great holiday!

Interesting stereo..

I haven't come across Soundstream before, but a quick search on some local car stereo forums seems they have pretty decent sound quality, and they're cheap.

Post a follow-up once its in

I also need to find a 4-channel amp that fits in the stock location by the passenger seat (to either power all stock rears, or just power splits and bridge a pair of channels for a small sub if needed). I don't want a false floor in the rear, won't put it on the seat backs, and am not too keen on putting it in the spare wheel well.

If your car still has the stock external amp, can you post measurements of it?

The smallest 4-channel amp I've found so far is this Eton one.

Looks like Soundstream have a design only slightly larger - the STL 4.320 and 4.500. Wonder if one will fit in the stock location?

Cheers for the informative post - I'll do some reading.. not sold on the head unit although its worth reading more about, but an interesting brand of audio stuffs who're relatively unknown here in Oz.

Thanks Joe - that amp was used until 88.

From 89 onwards there was a different one - and I'm not sure if the earlier amp will fit as the diagnostic plug was put into the same space on later cars.

I saw this today in Jeff's car, and must say I would much prefer it over the busy, hard-to-use Pioneer that I purchased recently.

The surround trim of this unit, is rounded and pairs _perfectly_ with the trim lines of the HVAC above it..its uncanny. No gaps, just fits like a crafted glove into the space provided..the trim radius matches OEM.

IMHO, it will be a great match to the buttons on the window/sunroof/wiper display I will be upgrading to pretty soon as well...the icons match in overall design.
