I have a 87 S4 empty shell available for free to a rennlister if someone wants to start another big restoration project like this? You just gotta pick it up at my house in Perry, MI. No title though but im sure wouldn't be hard to get. By the way nice work so far Carl!

Will do, I assume you mean the seals? I think I remember how it goes back together...wait...no this doesn't fit...hmmm...where does this bolt go again?

LOL. Its the process of essentially scratching the new paint with the process I am concerned about. And the finicky seals that only seem to be able to come off, and not back on.

As far as trim pieces goes, do you know how that "L" shaped corner piece is supposed to butt up against the longer trim pieces? Should it be a flush fit at both seams, or should the lower trim piece be overlapped by the "L" shaped bracket? The last paint shop mounted the top of the "L" flush with the upper trim piece but overlapped the lower trim piece, as if one piece was too big.
Cheers!

Carl,
I am surprised at your choice of House of Color. I tried the system and found the primer to turn out glossy and difficult to sand. The base coat was also glossy and difficult to sand too. I only did one piece but it took a while and the result was far from satisfactory.
Good looking job though and I agree a complete paint job is a lot of work. Espeically after spending the day color sanding the second coat on all the small pieces on the car.
BTW anyone looking for a S4 project on the West Coast I have a complete S4 in pieces.

Probably would need to use a water based gel during assembly, but the seals will be tricky. The last paint shop messed up the install pretty good so I am doing it myself for sure this time. I have not seen the "new improved" seals from Roger so I'm not sure if they are easier to install.

Carl, Just use some of the leftover KY Jelly that came with your recent Contantine bearings purchase. T

I agree, I looked at the trim pieces when I removed them, and they clamp onto the painted surface really good. One step closer...actually many small steps...
Finally had some free time again, so I managed to finish drilling out the spot welds on the rear quarter panels, in preparation for the GTS fenders. Also had to move my paint shop slot until August as I have not had much time lately for the project. Add to that 100+ temperatures in the garage, and it makes it impossible to do any priming, or any significant work.
I also received my rotisserie from Summit Racing, and after having mounts fabricated to fit in place of the bumper shocks, I mounted the frame on the rotisserie, and finally got it balanced before the heat kicked my ....well it was hot!
For the spot welds I used a special air tool that drills out the welds without penetrating the underlying panel. It also clamps down from the back side, very neat. I suggest NOT to use spot weld drill bits that drill a "circle" which leaves a raised center that much be ground off.
After getting the driver side quarter panel off, I noticed a metal tube, attached to the inside of the B-pillar. Anyone that knows what it might be? Only the driver's side has one.
Cheers!

Thanks Al,
I don't think it is a drain, as the foam sealed it inside the b-pillar. And I can't see anything inside the car or by the sunroof that goes here. Perhaps a manufacturing attachment point of some sort?
Cheers!
