Yes, it is fully functional. It was bench tested before install, and works great.
Once the electrical system in the car is finished (soon), I'll post pictures of everything powered up. The mirror is basically like any other auto dimming mirror with the difference being red illumination instead of the typical green of the common Gentex aftermarket mirrors.

Cheers!

Hi Carl

I just noticed your 1000th post anyway I bought an Audi mirror to try with the Porsche 991 mirror, it is still in the U.S. But I need the windshield button, I know you posted the seller but how to find the part number? Or can I buy from an Audi dealer?

Edit, just found it.

Hi Greg,

A 1,000 posts...that means I need to get a life

The part number is: 2196404 , CRL Audi A6/100 Rear View Mirror B [MPN: AGC23

I copied the complete order line as it has a few different numbers, but the SKU number is 2196404

The local Audi dealer did not have it where I live, but even if they had it, I'm sure it would have been 3 times as much. They told me most glass installers carry them, but no local installers had it either.

Cheers!

Thanks Carl,

I just noticed the manufacturer and I used to deal with them here, it will be interesting to see today if they have them in Oz. Otherwise I will ship it with the mirror, I am giving myself a better than 50/50 chance it will fit the 22 mm Porsche ball.

Also have you considered getting the side mirrors converted to the same dimming system? I was thinking some of the guys that repair the gel mirrors might be able to convert a set?

Hi Greg,

If there is a way to get the side mirrors converted, I would be VERY interested. So far I have not had any luck finding anyone that does it. Do you by chance have a source or lead?

Cheers!

Carl,

No guarantees but this company repairs the mirrors and say they can repair most of them. They have to do this from stratch and I have watched the YouTube video he put up and it may be worth approaching him.

Hi Greg,

I came across that company in my search, but was not under the impression that they would do it, but I will contact them and see. Perhaps if there are several people interested it would make sense for them.

Do you have a link to their Youtube video? I have not seen it.

Cheers!

Thanks Greg,

I'll give them a call and see if it is possible.

I finished the HVAC filter "lid", and after some trial and error, now have a perfectly sealing lid. Even though the positive pressure inside the HVAC box will prevent dust from entering, I wanted to make sure no airflow was allowed to escape which would negatively effect the amount of air entering the cabin.

The lid was made from balsa wood, sandwiched between fiberglass and then primed, and covered. I ended up using some 3M "carbon" wrap as I think it looks better than just painting the lid. Closed cell foam on the inner perimeter seals against the HVAC upper surface. The lid is held in place by 2 screws (will be replaced with threaded nut inserts in the HVAC box) in the front, and has two slots in the rear that will allow threaded studs with a nut to hold down the rear part. Sorry I didn't have any shiny bolts, for the pictures

Cheers!
Carl

Default Headliner recovered

Picked up the recovered headliner and rear hatch trim from the upholstery shop today. The rear hatch headliner will be done tomorrow. Material is Volara foam underneath, followed by a material that's called Unisuede, similar in texture and feel to Alcantara (close) but about half the price.

I asked the shop to NOT cut any openings as I wanted to do that myself, being the control freak that I am Installed the Audi dome lights and one makeup mirror assembly. Still need one more makeup mirror, if anyone has one in great shape, let me know. I'll post it as a WTB as well later.

Finally I test fitted the shifter assembly for the 6-speed auto. This is the stock C6 shifter assembly, and it needs significant trimming in order to fit in the transmission tunnel cutout. About 20-25 mm needs to be cut from each end of the assembly (VERY thick nylon), and the front and rear overhangs needs to be removed as well. In the picture, the trimmed unit now fits in the opening, and with the raised and flush center console, it should be a fairly flush fit.
Hoping to have pictures of the installed trim pieces in the next few days.

Cheers!
Carl

Default Rear hatch headliner

Small progress today, installed the rear hatch trim pieces (side pieces still pending), and tried to decide if I should recover the rear visors as well, but in the end I think having them not covered, makes for a nice break in the material.
Also tested the interior hatch lights for current draw, 0.12A for both of them, so the current draw for all internal lighting should come in under 0.5A.

Next up is the A-pillar covers and side pieces for the hatch. Then onto the heater hose circuit for the Thermotion valve.

Cheers!

Carl- you'll be very happy with the Unisuede material. I have that same material on my 911 seat and door panel inserts. They wear very well and look awesome. My upholstery guy said that it wears much better than Alcantara and will last longer too. He doesn't know why anyone actually uses that material- it's expensive and hard to work with...

Great to hear! Good to know it holds up well in a 928, and I agree about the Alcantara price. It is twice as expensive compared to the Unisuede and I can't tell the difference. How do you like the door panels inserts done in the material? I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Do you have any pictures of them?

Cheers!

Default Heater and coolant hoses install

Finished (clamps left to do) the routing for the heater coolant circuit and expansion tank connection for the LS setup. Basically the stock 928 heater core connects to one pair of connections on the Thermotion valve, and then the other pair connects to the LS heater circuit bibs, 5/8" supply (out from engine) and 3/4" return from heater valve/coolant reservoir. It may be hard to see in the picture but there is a "Y" connection from the upper return hose that also connects to the reservoir.

Still have some cleaning up to do and to find proper "hangers" or brackets to hold the heater hoses in place as well as some better clear tape to hold the hose labels in place.

Cheers!

Interestingly Ultrasuede and Alcantara are essentially the same - the variants are based on marketing strategy and resultant location of manufacture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultras..._vs._Alcantara
