Hi Stan,

The foundation is HoK epoxy primer, followed by the Shimrin 2 sealer system (3001 black), followed by Shimrin 2 Jet-black base (has gloss in itself, not to be confused with their jet black single stage paint), approximately 15 grams of deep blue pearl and 3 grams of silver pearl mixed in the top base coat. That base will be coated with Urethane Show Klear clear coat, followed by color sanding and buffing. It is all House of Kolor products except for some Evercoat flexcoat on the bumper covers underneath the HoK sealer.

The rotisserie has been great, once the car is done I will probably sell it if anyone is interested as I am running out of space in the garage

Cheers!
Carl

thanks for the paint info ,
are you going to add any pearl to the first layer of clear?
it will make it pop even more than just adding it to the top base coat.
might be cool to do a few test panels to see the difference,
but it may be wasting the materials, BUT your painter may know better than me.
Cant wait to see the final product.
When we did my 79 in the Glassurit lite blue we put some silver pearl into the base and then first 2 coats of medium build clear,
it shimmered after it was finally buffed, had to do the 1200 wet sand and buff 3 times for the shimmer to show up
I should not have sold that car

Stan,

It was the original plan to add some pearl to the clear, and if this had been a pure show car I would have done so. Because it will see regular driving, washing and waxing etc, the shop advised against it as eventually clear coats get worn down through abrasion from waxing, polishing etc and eventually you will disturb the pearl layer. Also in case (hope not) I get a deep scratch or minor accident, it is much easier for any repair shop to match the paint this way. But yes, for a show car I would absolutely put pearl in a floating clear coat layer, it will really stand out.

Cheers!
Carl

Default Clear coat!

Received some updates from the paint shop today, the body has been cleared, and it is starting to look like a car. Still have ways to go but I must say I am very pleased with the result so far. The HoK clear flows out really nicely. Color sanding and buffing still to go.

Cheers!

Hi Carl,

I down to the bare shell now. I will start building my rotisserie this week end and then I will sandblast the engine bay, interior and bottom. I will chemically strip the exterior panel to prevent any problems. My plan is to have the entire shell sealed with epoxy primer and the interior, engine bay and bottom sprayed within two to three months so I can start putting some parts back on. As for a post on my project, I should start one soon.

Thanks for posting updates on your project. It's very fascinating and it gives me hope for my own project.

Some more pictures from the paint shop. Doors, hood and hatch cleared. Not the greatest composition or lighting but it is progress Received a video from the shop as well, but haven't figured out how to post it yet.

Cheers!

You should also start to clean and refresh the engine you plan to install everything nice and shiny. Replace older lines clean leather etc.

Then right after your finished product. Enroll in the concours ;P
