Default Winter Insurance

I just called my insurance company - State Farm - to pay my premium. When I told the agent that I wouldn't be using my 928 during the winter months she said they I could put my car on what they called "winter layaway" at something like 1/4 the cost of the normal premium. The layaway time period lasts from Nov to May.

Just passing this along in case there is someone else who was not aware of this option. As a note, it may vary by region -- I know that Florida business offer a lot of summer layaway options (cable company, phone, etc.) due to the exodus in April / May.

I also have State Farm. Been doing this for about +4 years. Works great. They even help to activate it for a few hours when I was moving one of my Porsche to a new storage location.

I discovered this 15 years ago. Many insurance companies don't tell you but the good ones do.

Really it's the only good thing about NE Winters, unfortunately any savings on insurance is quickly negated by the heating bills.

It is a very common practive for boats, so most insurance companies will do "Lay up" insurance.

The other alternative is to shift to a location were it never snows and you can drive your 928 all year round, more expensive, but lots more fun.

If only those locations came with good careers and no people

+ when you dont drive the 928 during the winter it makes it that much more special when spring eventually comes but it better not breakdown over the driving season

+ 928

If I could transplant my job to SoCal my family and I would be moving in a heartbeat! In fact about the only thing I really like about NE are the Summers and my job which is very sad when you think about it. I wish I never moved to SoCal 10 years ago, I would never know any better and would be loving what we have now. Can't win I guess.
