Prior to the 89 Probe I had an 86 Mazda RX-7 S (German model with 150hp, manual, Weissach-like rear axle, no AC) in light blue metallic, and a Renault Fuego GTS (96hp, manual) in dark green metallic. Before that I drove my mom's bright yellow 76 Ford Fiesta with 40 hp and manual transmission.
All were two door hatchbacks; the ones I picked were coupes with somewhat round shapes. All were at least decently quick; the only "wicked quick" one was the 91 928 GT that I owned for 8 months before I purchased my current 928 S4.
Hahaha! Awesome!

87 Volvo 740 Turbo. When the turbo went, I converted the whole thing to a Ford 5.0L V8 through these guys. Car was a lot of fun.

Some of the cars I have owned that I find worth collector discussion, YMMV. Some were amusing, all were fun in one way or another, and I would most likely buy most of them again.... the 928 beats them all overall.....IMO
1953 Ford 2 door HT 85hp flathead with 2 speed Ford Automatic
1957 Ford Convertible, 312 ci Y block 3 speed later upgraded to 390 ci, 5 transmissions, 2 rear ends, and an unknown number of u-joints later it went to a new owner
1959 Morris Minor convertible with a massive 954 cc engine/leather interior, a real beast (not)
1965 VW (new) 1200 cc, ran 65 mph downhill with tail wind, but is was fun in many respects
1966 Austin Healy Sprite 4 speed, neat car, had disk brakes and radial tires and cornered like it was on rails
1967 Ford Fairlane 2 dr HT, HiPo 289 auto
1968 Firebird 350 2 speed auto, radial tires disk brakes (new)
1972 Satellite Sebring 2d HT 383ci auto in sky blue
1975 VW Sirocco, possibly the worst car I ever owned and I bought it new
1975 Chevy Monza Spyder V8, a new set of front tires every 10k miles (new)
1980 Datsun 280Turbo, 5 speed, great car, top end was over 140 mph....(new)
1985.5 944, great car, great handling, all the typical Porsche problems…motor mounts, timing belts, electrical etc….I really liked it in spite of all the Porsche problems
1955 Intermeccanica 356 Speedster, 90hp
1957 Intermeccanica 356 Speedster, 160 hp
1986 Corvette 350 auto, decent car, was my wife’s car, I do miss it
1989 Mazda Miata, commendable car, one of my favorite handling cars, not enough power, owned it for a long time by my standards
1955 Thunder Ranch 550 Spyder, great fun with 4 speed 220hp and 1500 pound weight….0-60, just a bit under 4 seconds and I know a Lotus Esprit owner who is still wondering what he tangled with, as well as some others….
1955 Outlaw 356 Speedster (still in build out) it will also be 220+ hp and 1500+/- pounds
1981 Porsche 928S 5 speed, a prime example of why buying a car unseen, and from a description by owner, is a very bad idea, scrapped out this year
1984 Porsche 928S auto (White, sold) a lot of fun
1984 Porsche 928S auto (Red) just about ready to hit the road
I have had over 120 cars, these are just the more interesting ones to me....

Not many...
My high school dream cars were: 928s, Honda Prelude, Toyota Supra, Lotus Esprit, Toyota MR2, Saab 900, BMW 6 series, Lexus SC400, Alfa Romeo Spider.
1988 Honda Prelude: owned 1988-1994.
1990 Saab 900: 1994-1999.
1995 Lexus SC400: 1999-2009.
1986.5 Porsche 928s: 2007-present.
Almost bought a 6 series a couple of years ago but read on Bimmerforums that the transmission is prone to failure-- often. The Lexus was a fantastic car. Loved it. Would still like to own a Lotus at some point.

From first to last:
1981 Camaro Z-28
1988 Mustang GT
1994 Probe GT
1995 BMW M3
1998 Mustang SVT Cobra
1990 928GT (number 0082, sold to RKD in OKC)
1995 Accord LX (beginning of my personal Dark Age)
1997 4Runner (still in the Dark Age)
1998 BMW M3 (seeing the light again)
1990 928GT (The Velvet Hammer)
With the exception of the last car, all of them were my daily drivers. My current DD is a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee - an awesome SUV for the money IMHO.

The car I bought most recently before the 928 was a 1964 Ford Falcon convertible that I put back together. I never enjoyed it much, even though I really wanted to. Had a straight 6 - 170, and was rust eaten. Just too tinny and cheap, especially compared to my 63.5 Galaxie, which feels about ten times as solid.
My next car will be... man, I don't know. but there are so many outrageous great deals out there it's really hard to sit and wait. I think I want a British roadster, if I can find one my 6'5" frame fits into.

No offense intended. I just meant that you are so knowledgeable about the 928 and you've mentioned you're German. I didn't expect you to be driving any kind of American car, let alone a Probe. It just isn't what I pictured you driving.
