Many owners find checking their automatic transmission fluid in their 928 to be a pain to say the least. Well here is the easy way. I just use a portable web cam and laptop to do it. It works great and you don't even need to lift the car. You can sit in your car and check the level by your self. These cameras are very cheap and I have found so many uses them that I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner. I use a cheap Phillips web cam with an attached light. It is great for checking the transmission, under the intake and all those places where you just can't get to.
To make it even better, I saw a radio controled car with a web cam attached to it advertised on TV. It is called "The Spy Car" and it is being marketed to kids as a toy. I haven't tried it, but it looks like you can just sit in your easy chair and send the "SPY CAR" into your garage and under the car. No need to even put down your beer.
Thanks for the idea...it's very clever.

Now all we need is someone to figure out a clever way to "adjust" the fluid level, if it needs to be changed.

Didn't Kibort already drill holes in his floorpan to reach the rear shifter coupler? Surely something similar could be done for an auto?

I'm sure you'd agree it's probably better to just get a manual Hilton

With his axe, no doubt.

I almost bought a small camera the other day, key feature that is just showing up on the cheap web cams is auto focus, and by cheap around $20 for a USB.

I like the idea for checking TPS/ISV connectors as well

I just attached the cam to a pole so I could adjust its location under the car after a 20 mile warm up.
No need to lift the car.
I check mine in my shop on its level floor.
If you need to add fluid then there is a lift or jack stands in your future.
My 86.5 with 117000 miles on it has never needed to have fluid added except
during a filter and ATF change.
The cam I used has a built in light but I did use a shop light in addition.
These cams are a dime a dozen. I paid $1 for mine at a garage sale.
A friend of mine found one at Goodwill for $3.
Most of them are plug and play if you use Widows 7. For XP the drivers can be downloaded.

This is the type of idea that popular mechanics would use in its cartoon series "wordless workshop".
