New to 928 Ownership and loving it
I have had my 89 S4 for a few months now and I am constantly amazed and amused by it. I never really intended to be 928 addict but I am well on my way.
It all started with a family drive that happened to pass a car lot with some exotic cars. Got out to look at the Aston Martins, Jags, etc. But what caught my eye was a 928. I had always loved them, but it had been years since I'd really seen one on the road. Mostly, I couldn't believe the price. I'd seen MGB's go for this kind of money. Anyway, I didn't buy one that day. But it got stuck in my head. I wanted one, no I needed one. So I browsed autotrader and ebay like it was internet ****. Mostly I hoped this would pass or all the good ones would be gone and I could go back to normal. But eventually a nice looking example at a good price came up. I dragged the wife and kids out to see it, figuring she could talk me out of my insanity. Hell no! She took one look at it and I knew I was in trouble.
It was clean, the interior was excellent, looked like everything worked and it had a full maintenance history, with receipts from a reputable Porsche dealer for all the big ticket items. It ran a little rougher than I expected, but an inspection by a local Porsche mechanic confirmed it was in good shape.
I went to pick it up 3 days later and again a week after that. (That's a story for another day!)
First thing I did was take it to a mechanic and have everything thoroughly checked and all fluids replaced including brake fluid. I put in a new air filter, sparkplugs and adjusted the bowden cable (which I learned about here). Felt like a new car. I have been loving it ever since. Now I browse the web for another 928 for my wife so she'll stop driving mine. (Which she refers to as my 22 yr old German girlfriend)
I wanted to also say thanks to everyone on this forum for helping make 928 ownership a reality for me. When I first thought about getting one I was going to dismiss it. They were old, expensive; where would I get parts, how could I afford to maintain it, could I work on it myself? Well, while I was looking for my car I was also reading this forum extensively. There was so much knowledge, good advice, access to parts, tips, whatever... that I began to feel like it wasn't such a big risk after all. I knew I had found the right car because thanks to this forum I knew what to look for and what to avoid. I did as I was told and bought the best example I could afford with a documented history. You guys (and girls) and resources I found from forums like this were the deciding factor. Thanks!
So now that my baby is in the garage for the winter; I will start to do the detailing and minor fixes/enhancements to make my shark 100%. I'll be relying heavily on the advice of people like you have been through it. I expect I will have many posts in the near future. Though hopefully this will be the longest.

Welcome to the 928 ownership club! Enjoy!
Now it is time to join the 928 Owners Club (www.928oc.org) and you will be set! I would also recommend at least one more 928! I mean really, you can't have TO MANY OF THEM! LOL!

James,
You, I just noticed, are missing the 89 automatic. Landmark transmission changes that year with the S4engine. Me thinks you need one.
Murray, you are in great company. How about a few pictures!

Thanks for the welcome
Here are few more pictures. The car is bone stock and i mostly like it that way. I'm sure I will try some performance mods and maybe wheels to start. I also like the wood dash kits that I saw at garage9. Know anyone who has installed them? Do they look good in real life?

Bone stock these beasts are so fantastic, it's hard to imagine wanting or needing more. But it happens. Congrats on the new ride... now make a point of driving the **** out of it every chance you get.

+1 on fuel lines!!
Check the flex plate.
Little hose at the back that goes from the passenger side head to the heater valve.
Heater valve!
If it's still running a little rough, check for other vacuum leaks.
