Default new 928 owner with a couple really dumb but easy questions.

Well I am happy to report I am finally a 928 owner. Now I have to start figuring out some of these things that are bugging me.

My instument lights are dim, is there a adjustable dimmer and if so where?

How do you pop the rear hatch, unsure if I have the right button as my interior lights are now working now and I see they are related?

Is there a arming switch for the cruise control, I only see the set/accel/reset?

I have a few more indeapth things to figure out too but I will worry about that later.

dirtydevin,
welcome. please post your model year. find a member named Andrew Olson. he has a link to the owner's manuals for the different years in his signature. that will answer all your questions and some more you haven't thought of yet.

As Bob said, all those things you asked about vary by model year. It's a good idea to put it in your signature.

towards the top left of the page you can find a tab that says "User CP". click on that and then "Edit Signature"

If you click on my avatar, you can search my friends and will find Andrew Olson and his links to the Owner's Manuals.

Better to learn how to fish, if you catch my drift.

sigs only work for rennlist members. You could put it into your "location" field until you are a member.

My 82 does not have a release switch. It only works with the key.

Don't think the 83 has a remote hatch release, mine doesn't.

I think you guys are right about it not having a hatch release. I was thrown off because the previous owner said the hatch release did not work, but he had 3 928's and probably got mixed up on which one.

That feature wasn't introduced until 1984.

Regarding the dim dash lights, I replaced mine with LEDs from Autolumination. Great addition. Had a couple burn out in my Benz but not in the 928. They recommend turning the adjuster down just a little to afoid burn out from excesive heat. The adjuster is under the pod to the left of the steering wheel.

For the dimmer switch (at the bottomleft of your instruments pod) with turn-wheel to dimm the dashlight for your clockwork , I redesigned my dimmer switch for using with LEDs by replacing it by a potentiometer with a resistance of 470 ohm. (adjustable from 0 to 470 ohm)

When replacing the bulbs in your dash ***** by LED you need to do the following :
Since the illumination of all dash ***** has 2 levels ( 1 normal brightness when not pushed and 1 brighter level when pushed) I placed an extra resistance of 4,8k ohm for each led bulb in the *****.

Good point. I have never replaced the ones in the *****.
