Default What's this button do?

Hey Folks,
As of 2 weeks ago, I am the proud owner of an 82 928 5 spd. I've been reading this forum since and I'm starting to think I got in over my head. I am generating a work list for all the stuff that needs to be fixed/replaced and it looks like this is definitely the best place to figure out what's going on with the 928. My first question is probably a silly one, but its driving my nuts. There is a button under the dash that I have no idea what it is supposed to do. Almost nothing in the cockpit works, so pressing it showed me nothing. The button is on the left side of the steering column right next to the rheostat for the dash instrument light intensity. Its not the intensive washer as that is on the left side of the dash next to the wiper speed adjustment. There is no mention of the button in question in the owner's manual. Any thoughts? This is not my most pressing issue on the car, but like I said, its driving me nuts not knowing what it is supposed to do. Any response is appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

there are 2 push buttons on the Euro pods,
the one on the left side bottom edge of the pod is for the trip odometer reset ,
Note this is due to the fact that the lowest position on the left pod face is now for the rear fog lamp switch, fitted to the Euro models

The push button on the right side of the steering column is for the intensive washers

You might consider buying an Owner's Manual to help you get familiarized with your car's features.

MrMerlin, thanks for the helpful response. I have a copy of the 82 owners manual (which I read prior to posting the question as directed), but its helpful to be able to see the other models. Any guesses on why that would be in my car. It has all the buttons noted in the US 82 owners manual. Doesn't seem that a company like Porsche would just leave a useless button in the car. The button under the dash does not reset the odometer. I have the button on the dash for that, which works thankfully since the gas gauge does not. Anyone else with an 82 that has this button?

its possible that the pod was swapped out at an earlier time with a Euro pod,
and the switch was never removed

A photo would help. I'd wager it's an add-on. "Next to the rherostat" he says. Alarm? Radar?

Walt K. is selling three controls from off the bottom of a Pod on eBay. The three include one of these little push buttoms. I have a few pod cores for recovering and most of them had the push button switch on the bottom.
