DeLand, FL February 2011
I'm planning to stay in DeLand in February, anyone want to meet up for 928 chat and show off their car?
I probably won't have transport so I'd be relying on you driving over to meet me.
Cheers
Paul

From London to Deland? What brings you to Deland? I'm not trying to be nosey, it's just that Deland is a very small town that most people have never heard of.
If you keep this thread updated between now and Feb. I'm sure that a few of us will be able to come meet you. We've done it for a few other visitors in the past.

Would be great to meet up, thanks for the quick reply.
I'll be a the DeLand dropzone for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping for decent weather, I've been told temps should be mid 70s, not sure what the winds will be like though. Not booked my flights yet but hope to by the end of the month.

Welcome
Check out the nearby track schedules, in case the weather doesn't work out for your initial plans:
http://www.racereview.com/florida.htm
The Daytona track is very close and Sebring is only 2.5 hours away. The Porsche Club of America's big annual club race at Sebring is Feb 3-6, 2011 - several 928'ers go to watch each year (and at least two are regulars in the race).
(The bigger, and rowdier, 12 Hours at Sebring race is in March 16-19, and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is March 11-13).
As Shawn indicated, I am sure we can put together a welcoming committee! (even if I don't often make it..) Our Florida 928 OC point of contact is Mel. Just keep us posted on your ETA.

Thanks Carlos
Flights are booked so I'll be there from the 15th Feb to the end of the month. The worse the weather the more lost I will be!
Would be great to meet up and go for a meal/snack/drink/whatever.
Cheers - Paul

Folks,
I just wanted to say that I had a good time hosting UKKid35 (Paul), briefly, in Tampa this past Friday. He did some skydiving near Tampa, at Zephyrhills, and swung by Tampa before heading back to Deltona.
Paul is quite the hard core 928'er (and not really a kid, in my book, btw). He told me how the prevalence of a certain 928 cutaway poster is what drew him to the 928. He finally bought one (a 928) for himself, but it was in pretty rough shape when he got it, and then, at an inopportune time, it decided to let go it's timing belt! With no other transport at the time, Paul spent mornings and evenings and weekends - without a true garage to work in - taking apart, replacing the heads, then putting back together his motor. He said this took "a long time", but when I pressed for specifics, he revealed that it was about 5 months. Given the circumstances, I think he did great!
He also filled me in on many interesting facets of spending track time at "the ring" (Nürburgring). How lucky it must be to be able to take a one- or two-day trip and have access to that 14 mile track! He and some friends have done it several times!
Anyway, I was glad to pull the silver car out for Paul, and burn up some of the old gas it's currently got sitting in the tank. He seemed to enjoy seeing the stroker stretch its legs a bit.
Paul, it was a pleasure meeting you, and getting to talk cars in general and 928's in particular!

I gotta get back on RL more often, Deland is just an hour south of me Paul, & I'm down that way on occasion on biz. I drove right by there on two occasions mid month. I'm sure with you being there for a couple of weeks I could have coordinated something with you. Glad you were able to get something together in Tampa for him Carlos & show him some Fla 928 hospitality.

I'd just like to thank Carlos for generously giving up his time during what was obviously a very hectic week. But I'm very glad he did, as the opportunity to meet another 928 addict is always fun for me, even more so when I'm given a ride in a car as unique as his! That S3 Stroker is a real beast, and quite different to other 928s I've been in.
I had a great time in Florida the last couple of weeks, so I will definitely return, now back in London at 40F has really brought be back to earth with a bump.
I look forward to welcoming Carlos to London one day, but you'd probably enjoy it much more in the summer!

I'm back in Deland, so if anyone would like to meet up and chat about 928s please let me know. Anywhere within a couple of hours of Orlando is fine for me. Carlos, if you're free then dinner is on me for sure.
