When my father and I first drove our GTS (after buying it and having a timing belt change) we stopped at a gas station, filled up, got back in, and the car wouldn't start. The car never would start after it had been running for a period of five minutes or more. Frustrated, we had our mechanic replace the starter...that wasn't the problem, though it did need replacing. We then had the O2 sensor replaced...that wasn't the problem either. We then had the entire computer rebuilt...that wasn't the problem either. Now we are having some wiring replaced that has apparently has frayed as a result of the aftermarket stereo system installed by the previous owner. The stereo has recently been taken out and returned to factory specifications. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this....as if there is anything else that could have caused the wiring to fray as it did. Also, I thought that this would be an interesting read for anyone considering installing a huge aftermarket setup.![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Unfortunately, I don't have any decent pics, as I haven't seen it in person...I've just spoken with my mechanic on the phone...he will email me pics tomorrow.

Well, apparently this was disabling the alarm and the passenger side door chime. I'm thinking that it's a combination of the lousy installation and the stereo itself.

It would try to crank, but wouldn't turn over. The stereo was massive...I don't understand why anyone would want so much sound in such a small car.

Let me rephrase...it would "try" to start but to no avail.

Well, it wasn't only that one instance...it happened whenever the car had been on a short drive and then turned off. When I would try to start it again (without waitning 10 minutes) it wouldn't turn over.
Anyhow, the problem is supposedly fixed after four months of trying to figure out what was wrong!

crazy! i know mine would not start with out a fight after i first got it. after i parked it when hot it would act liked a flooded car.. turns out the fuel pressure dampener was leaking in to the vac lines and flooding the intake with fuel.... fix that, works every time. and that only happened when the engine was hot.

It is quite frustrating to have a new car that won't start! We'll see what happens on Wednesday when my father and I are supposed to pick it up from the shop.
