Default Full Leather Interior

Hello,

Question - Did the '87-'91 Porsche 928 S4/GT have a "full leather" option? I've seen option codes for such things as leather seatback hinges and speaker covers. But what about, you know, the actual interiors. i.e; leather door pannels, leather dashboard, leather center console, leather headliner, etc...

Thanks.

My 90 S4 has a full leather interior including the luggage cover. No vinyl anywhere.

Yes-you could basically custom order damn near anything if you paid $$$$ for it.

I found some vinyl in my full leather 89.. if you feel inside the door pockets, the front side of the pocket inside is vinyl on my 89. To verify you have to lift the edges on the back of the door card (mine are out currently).

Everything else I've had apart is leather (headliner, sun shades, rear quarter panels and quarter window trim surround, door cards and inserts, armrests and pocket lids, front and rear centre console, dash, a-pillars, hatch trim, side plates by rear seats, etc.)

I had to go out to the garage and check. You're right, there's black vinyl in there. Oh well, close enough for me.

That's it. You'll have to give it to me now.

Porsche stopped offering full leather interiors for the 928 some time around 85 or 86. The heat in the Southern states made the leather dry out and shrink, resulting in many customer complaints and warranty issues.

Porsche continued to offer this option in other markets, which is why many Euro/ROW cars have it. You could probably twist a Porsche salesperson's arm a bit and get it on a custom order car for the US as well.

In the meantime, Porsche found a better glue for the leather , that firmly keeps it in place - no more pulling away when drying out. But it came too late for the 928, and so we saw it go without leather dashes.

My 91 does have a leather option that includes the A-pillars, upper door panels, rear quarters, sun visors, door pocket covers and inner door handle, and a few other pieces. However, the dash, console, and arm rest/vent piece in the doors is vinyl covered.

The green GTS linked in my signature probably have the most leather of any later model 928 we've seen here in the US.

My 1987 S4 has a full Pearl White interior including the luggage cover. The pod however is black plastic to reduce the glare/reflection.

The issues with Porsche leather shrinkage is apparent in this 2004 996 leather dash.
I've redone a number of 996 dashes.
