I am thinking the $15 HF charger
Exactly what I was thinking, just hard mount it with a zip tie - well it worked on my lawnmower anyway...;] Bruce

What I especially enjoy on my 83 is that if the battery goes down just the right amount the alarm goes off even if it isn't activated.

Fixing the drain on an old 928 is like sweeping up sand at the beach, $15 to $25 for a little charger and parts and the issue is gone and batteries start lasting a normal life.

My car came prewired with one attached to the battery in the hatch. It has a plug so it's easy to unhook. Works really good so long as you don't forget to unplug it before driving off.

I have used BatteryMinderPlus for years on four cars. It comes with both spring-clip connectors and a connector which can be wired into the car and also has a wired quick connect. I have three of these.
It's advantage over some others is that:
1. it is OK with any kind of batery including the GEL-type.
2. After completing a top up charge, it automatically switches to de-sulphering mode
3. comes with 'free' battery condition indicator

The Schumacher is cheap and widely available - works fine. Mine is permanently installed in the car with 120v plug in IEC socket in the front grill area - easy to charge (anywhere).

I bought a few of these from Sears a few years ago and have been happy with them.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these:

I have eight car batteries in my basement going between my one trickle charger all winter. Plus three other 12V batteries I keep charged for testing purposes.

I use a battery tender for the 928 batt stored in the basement.

For those who do similar where in the basement do you have your battery? I stay well away from the 'mechanical' room where the gas fired dual water heaters and furnace are.

One step up from this one.

I use a marine style waterproof 6 amp automatic tender. Those really small ones that put out 1 amp or less can't always keep up, especially if the battery is already drained, cold weather, and the minor drains that come with storing a 928. Hooked up directly to the battery and it's left in the car, fused, and the box was small, like 1.5" thick x 5" x 5". Always starts now and no dead batteries!

Still need to check the battery for dirty terminals once in a while though.

I also use Battery Tenders for my various vehicles (I usually have two Harleys and two Porsche connected in my garage at any one time). On my wifes 928, I connected it permanently to the front post and routed the cable so that it comes down just behind the lower front grill and zip tied it there. It works great, has easy access and isn't noticable.

This is a stupid question to bump my thread with..

I bought the 1.5 AMP Schumacher Battery Maintainer at Walmart and have installed the additional supplied harness for permanent mount at the positive hot post under the hood. It has been sitting for about 16 hours plugged in. I was going to disconnect it this morning but was running a little late to work so I forgot. Are these things safe to leave plugged in all day long???

In theory you can leave it plugged in indefinitely. Once it reaches full charge (indicated by green LED) it goes into maintenance mode.

It would probably be worth an hour or two diagnostic time to try to locate what is draining your battery down in 3-4 days. Accepted drain is 30ma or thereabouts. You probably have 20+ times that.

I have my 928 battery on the Tender for months on end, no worries; its wishful thinking on my part in that we may get a break in the figid weather and can go for a drive.
