Default Engine thread - NA 944 16V motor - 330hp (crank)

Thought this might be an interesting thread for some here to follow

A guy has got 330 chp (engine dyno) out of his NA 16V 944 engine. Includes 41mm intake and 34mm exhaust valves in ported 944S2 heads.

https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...et-engine.html

Wonder what his heads look like? Hopefully there'll be more photos added.

41mm is huge - 968 valves are what, 39mm?

Well 41 mm is a good size, it is the current street GT3 intake valve size, if his porting is similar to mine he can support quite a bit more power or at least 120 bhp per litre. I notice what he did was the same as what I proposed some years ago in offset grinding the factory crank down to the Honda journal size, gains stroke and reduces weight of rotating components.

It would be interesting to see the chambers also, whether he played with the diffusion of the intakes, something that may be worth looking at, although the bigger intakes help here as the increase the taper from the minimum CSA near the guides. I haven't seen any Porsche heads done that way although the high end Hondas do with the steeper angled ports.

From the owner.

I'll address many of the questions:
-Bore is 4.155", stroke is 3.564. It's a stock crank offset ground and using Honda/NASCAR rod journal size. Rods are Pauters.
-The car in my avatar is my 'old' 924GTR that had a 3.0 NA engine in it. Ran PCA and HSR.
-Pistons are CP.
-Heads are ported S2 with 41mm intakes and 34mm exhaust valves.
-Cams are billet pieces with adjustable chain sprockets.
-Ignition timing on the dyno was 28 degrees.
-Fuel used was 93 octane bought at the Shell station up the street.
Cheers.
He did say it did that number on carbs and that the ITBs should be better, I was a little surprised that the runners can't be made straighter but there must be a reason for it given it was a custom job. Well done to the builder.

this makes sense......since Louies engine makes over 600whp with essentially a double engine....I would say the slight drop in HP is just from the additional friction from having twice as many cylinders....
