How much do you think the Albrex kit sold for?

As the old saying goes: "you get what you pay for"

Sorry, I was commenting on Ted's used kit, not the Albrex.

God this is the 3rd message I have lost on Rennlist since last night.....

Ok Ill start over.

IMHO.... I think the supercharges (all of them) are way over priced.

I think turbos charger systems have to contend with more extreems, way higher speeds and heat and are a little more complext.

I know that there is more to the SC system but in general a blower, some pipeing and Map sensor depending.

I just think that $5000 to $10,000 is way to much IMHO

It all depends on what supercharger is used. If the base price of the new S/C itself is ~$2k, then it's hard for the whole kit to be under $5k.

These kits were designed long, long ago. Some spares are still available from Albrex.
Yes, this setup is original old school, designed 20+ years ago. The 9th injector was used because they didn't know how to modify the LH/EZK electronics for boost, so it ran rich most of the time. Not ideal, but the safer side to be on for detonation I guess. Original setup did not include an intercooler since output was only 6-8 psi, and was really designed (IMHO) to run in Europe where it's cold most of time.

There was no way to properly control the fueling until John's brilliant invention came along (thanks John!).

Kits are still available from Koenig in Munich, or directly from the source in Austria from Conrad Gruber, but they are *very* expensive.

They are because, there is a very limited market for them. The same stage 1 kit for a 5.0L mustang is almost half but there are 10s of housands more Mustangs out there. Also, the 928 SC kit makers can only sell them for whatever the market is wiling to pay and there you have it.

Now, since your signature says you are a mechanic, makes me beleive you should be good to do some fabrication on your own. Therefore, buy a used SC and build yourself the rest for a fraction of the cost. It will take a $hitload of time to make it but, there is plety of information on here to make a Stage 1 steup for not a lot of $$$.

^^^^ What Imre said. The kits available are well engineered and work pretty much as intended right out of the box. It can be done cheaper by doing it all on your own, but it depends on how much you value your time invested and how long you want to have your car down for.

Considering all the time invested, Murf and Carl are not getting rich off of the systems they sell. The volume just isn't there.
