the sensor is on top of the water bridge, it is the one that has 2 push on female connectors one is wider than the other.
The other sensor on the waterbridge is a Bosch type this is for the Temp 2 sensor for the computers

Sam I recall you've got an 89?

Its the brown Bosch connector on the passenger side on top of the coolant bridge in front of the intake (note for US readers, his car is RHD, so your driver's side). Located where the number 4 is on this diagram by Tony (the one shown is the '87 style Stan refers to).

Not to be confused with the blue Bosch connector on the other side which is the Temp II and provides temperature readings to the two ECU's.

Earlier S4's had push-on spade-type connectors, but my 89 has a Bosch 2-pole one.

It runs along under the fuel rail cover to the rear of the engine - although I can't remember whether it runs along-side, or is part of, the injector harness.

edit: found a photo from one of my intake refreshes.. its part of the injector harness. Which means it likely has its ground off the rear of the block under the MAF.

Thanks Mrmerlin and Hilton!

All sorted and back on the road.
The 14 point connector was loose oops!
