Looks to me like you have one LHD spec light and one RHD spec light (LHD = left hand drive, for US and other countries who drive on the right and sit on the left; RHD = right hand drive, for UK, Austrailia, etc.). So, for US use, you need 2 LHD spec lights, which would be indentical to eachother and can be installed on either the left or right side of the car.

Rob:

Herman and Brian are right. Looks like you've got one LHD lens and one RHD lens.

They should be the same (and interchangeable side to side).

Markings on a (both) LHD lens should be:

02 HCR

E1 (in a circle) 20

24467

The light pattern on LHD cars has the top of the beam cut off on the left side and then angling up towards the right so as to illuminate the off-side of the road, but not blind on coming traffic.

No - the lenses are very different. Whilst some adaptation is possible for temporary use in LHD countries with blanking wedges - you sacrifice some of the benefits of the H4's and it looks like crap .

Don't consider it worthwhile... Without modification its probably non-legal...

In a word, NO.

The difference is in the lenses, not the bulbs, and Right Hand Drive lights used in a Left Hand Drive country WILL blind oncoming drivers.

The 8" headlights on 87+ cars imported into the United States are NOT H4's with Euro-spec lenses. They utilize a US DOT approved lens that puts out a blob of light, rather than a precisely defined beam, and use H5 bulbs. They are reported to be only a marginal improvement over sealed beams.

Even the readily available 7" Euro-spec H4's (Hella's, Cibie's) are a huge improvement over those 8" H5 lights.

RHD H4's in a car used in the US are extremely anti-social and blindingly dangerous to oncoming traffic.

I've always thought that Nicole Mossinger is missing a product line by not using her Euro connections and lanquages to source used 8" H4's out of breakers on the continent.

These is no left or right light. They should be identical. Your pics suggest one is a LHD and the other a RHD lens.

The lens used on your headlight should be the same on both sides of the car. Dipped beam throws the light pattern lower and towards the pavement to avoid dazzling on coming traffic- that is a universal regulation.

If we take a British car onto the European mainland, as John states we are legally obliged to fit blanking strips to ensure that our dipped beam does not throw light the wrong way so we lose some illumination. If we want to keep these cars in Europe long term we are obliged to register them and in the process we would be obliged to change the lenses.

Thus if you import these things to the States and fit them I think you will find you render your vehicle illegal in terms of your road traffic regs never mind the anti social aspects.

Regards

Man, I am a dumbass of the first order. I have purchased two sets of H4 lamps in the past, and both times I ordered a 928 631 101 03 (LHD) and 928 631 102 01 (RHD). I'd misinterpreted the remarks column in PET, thinking that LL and RL are left hand and right hand, not LHD and RHD. Should probably start thinking before ordering ....

Anyone in in Great Britain need a pair of new-in-box RHD H4's for $450 + actual cost shipping?
