Now any help with the part number for this bolt?

Your best bet would be to source a 6mmx100mm conventional hex head bolt rather than chase the Porsche part (part N 109 908 1 if I read the parts manual correctly) My local HW store has that size in stock for $.86....

Thanks, the first three letters are actually 019. Would have never thought of looking for them under instrument cluster, though I guess it does make sense.

What's of more interest however is that Porsche calls for 2 identical bolts, one on each side. However when I'm looking at Dwayne's write up on removing the pod, it appears that bolts are different. The one on the left is noticably longer then the right one... Here is a crop of Dwayne's picture with bolts, hope he does not mind me putting it here. Anyway, I think the left one is 6x100, but I will first have to pull the right one to figure out its length... Just a word of caution for other in case they will have the same problem and will buy the bolt before pulling the old one out.

Cheers!

Yeah, the correct number is N 019 908 1 I never realized dyslexia was an acquired trait.....and there are 2 lengths just as the photo shows......the short one (60mm) goes by the ignition switch and the long one (100mm) goes in the left hand side of the cluster

Are you sure that the short one is 100mm?

Thank You!

Got the Irwin set - my luck must pretty low these days. 10mm head is too big for the head bolt and 8mm is too small and Irwin does not make 9mm...

Use the torx bit. Okay, you don't have to hammer it in, just a few small taps should do it. Those allen screws Porsche used are made of metal-butter.

Can you possibly get the dremel flexi-attachment up there with a cut-off disc?

Either slot the head, or just cut the head off the bolt.

I too have used Torx bits on small rounded allen heads to remove and replace bolts with new ones.

Thanks a lot guys - will try Torx bits, though I think Dremel is the way to go at this point.

Am sending this to you now, courtesy of the goodwill of Jadz928 and JHowell who in-turn had put these spare parts into my hand a while back. I think that's the way the parts mount, below. In case you need to drill, the aluminum piece might be helpful.

mission acomplished... Allen head has become a round head... I had to slot the bolt and go at it with a big screwdriver. It was sitting so tight, I hand to put vice grips on screwdriver and give it a couple of pushes.

Huh, that setup is significantly different from what I would assume is the digidash cars- here are the brackets from my '93, also the same on my '90. Can't find them anywhere in PET:

PET does not really cover this section for earlier cars either. I had hard time finding it in PET, and when I did (some of it is under instrument cluster section), not all of the parts were showing up.
